Job description

Job Overview:
The Category & Insights Manager is the category and analytics lead for our business at Amazon, Costco, and BJ's Wholesale Club. This role owns the category vision for these accounts while serving as the primary insights Manager.
The role translates syndicated, panel, loyalty, and retailer-specific data into fact-based, category-first stories that influence buyer decisions on assortment, shelf, pricing, promotion, and innovation. The ideal candidate is an analytical storyteller who is equally comfortable building a planogram recommendation, modeling an incrementality case, and presenting to a buying team.
Key Responsibilities
Category Leadership (Amazon, Costco, BJ's)
  • Serve as the category authority for the assigned account set, bringing a "category-first, retailer-centric" point of view to every recommendation.
  • Develop and present category reviews, line reviews, and reset recommendations that grow the total category while advancing our portfolio.
  • Lead assortment optimization, shelf/space strategy, and planogram recommendations - including days-on-hand analysis, distribution gap analysis, and look-of-success standards.
  • Build the incrementality and innovation narratives that justify new-item authorization, pack/format strategy, and exclusivity opportunities tailored to each banner.
  • Translate club-channel economics (pack architecture, member value, pricing comparisons) and eCommerce dynamics (digital shelf, search, content, retail media interplay) into distinct, account-specific strategies.

Insights - Supporting Category and Sales
  • Act as the analytics partner to National Account Executives/ Sales leads, equipping them with the data, tools, and stories they need to hit their goals.
  • Lead business situation assessments and opportunity identification using a full toolkit: syndicated POS, consumer panel, shopper loyalty/card data, and retailer-direct data.
  • Deliver post-reset, post-promotion, and post-innovation scorecards that quantify performance and recommend clear next steps.
  • Build and maintain recurring reporting, dashboards, and scorecards; manage ad-hoc requests across the Category and Sales teams without losing the strategic thread.
  • Identify drivers and drags of share, distribution, velocity, pricing, and promotion, and pressure-test multiple explanations before landing on a recommendation.
  • Mine for fact-based insights that anchor a storyline - culminating in recommendations that show benefit to the retailer, the shopper, and the portfolio.

Channel-Specific Focus
  • Amazon (1P/Vendor): Leverage Amazon Brand Analytics / ABA, search and digital-shelf metrics, and content/availability data to inform assortment, glance-view, and conversion strategy; connect category insights to retail media where relevant.
  • Costco & BJ's (Club): Drive item-level depth strategy, treasure-hunt/seasonal item cases, and member-value framing; build sell-in materials suited to a high-velocity, limited-SKU club environment.

Cross-Functional Partnership
  • Partner with Sales, Brand, Shopper Marketing, Revenue Growth Management, Supply Chain, and Space Planning to align on a single category vision per account.
  • Prepare and deliver presentations for buyer meetings, top-to-top reviews, and internal leadership forums.
  • Mentor analysts and junior category team members; help upskill the broader sales force to "sell with insights."

Total Rewards:
  • Salary range $105,000 - $133,000
  • Actual placement within the compensation range may vary depending on experience, skills, and other factors
  • Benefits, subject to election and eligibility: Medical, Dental, Vision, Disability, Paid Time Off (including paid parental leave, vacation, and sick), 401k with company match, and Tuition Reimbursement.
  • Annual bonus based on performance and eligibility

Requirements:
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Analytics, or a related field.
  • 5+ years in category management, shopper/consumer insights, or a related analytical role within CPG/FMCG (beverage or food & beverage preferred).
  • Hands-on expertise with syndicated data - Circana (Unify+) and/or Nielsen - and consumer panel tools (Numerator, Nielsen/Circana panel).
  • Demonstrated proficiency building planogram / space recommendations (e.g., Blue Yonder / JDA, Apollo, or similar) and interpreting assortment and distribution analytics.
  • Advanced PowerPoint and Excel; ability to turn complex data into a clear, compelling, action-oriented story.
  • Proven ability to influence both internal stakeholders and external buyers.

Preferred
  • Direct experience supporting Amazon, Costco, BJ's, Sam's Club, or comparable club/eCommerce accounts.
  • Familiarity with Amazon Brand Analytics / ABA, Amazon Brand View Pro (ABVP) digital-shelf and search analytics, and the role of retail media.
  • Experience with shopper loyalty/card data and retailer-direct portals.
  • Data-visualization fluency (Power BI / Tableau) and a track record of automating "speed to insight."

Competencies
  • Data-driven storytelling - turns numbers into a narrative a buyer will act on.
  • Cross-functional influence - builds trust across Sales, Brand, and partner teams.
  • Strategic + executional - connects the big category picture to the next concrete sell-in.
  • Ownership and pace - manages multiple accounts and deadlines with composure.
