What is contract lithium mining?

Contract lithium mining is an arrangement in which a mining company or contractor is hired to extract lithium from a specific site on behalf of another company or entity, often the owner of the mineral rights. This approach allows the owner to leverage the expertise, equipment, and workforce of specialized mining contractors without directly managing the mining operations. Contract mining can improve efficiency, reduce costs, and mitigate risks for companies that do not have in-house mining capabilities. It is commonly used in the rapidly growing lithium industry, as demand for lithium-ion batteries increases worldwide.

What is the difference between Contract Lithium Mining vs Contract Mining Technician?

Contract Lithium Mining and Contract Mining Technician roles share certifications in safety and mining operations. However, Contract Lithium Mining focuses specifically on lithium extraction processes, often requiring specialized knowledge of lithium deposits and processing. Contract Mining Technicians perform technical tasks across various minerals, including lithium, and work in broader mining environments. Both roles are essential in the mining industry but differ in specialization and scope.

Job description

Civil/Structural Engineer – Mining & Industrial

Location: Phoenix, AZ (Onsite)

Role Type: Direct Hire

The Opportunity

Are you a versatile engineer who excels at both site-wide civil infrastructure and the high-precision world of structural design? We are seeking a Civil/Structural Engineer to join our premier EPCM hub in Phoenix.

In this dual-disciplinary role, you will be responsible for the integrity of the structures that power the mining industry. From massive concrete equipment foundations to complex steel supports and industrial buildings, you will lead the design, analysis, and construction oversight that ensures operational safety and technical excellence across the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advanced Structural Design: Lead the design and analysis of steel structures, equipment supports, and heavy concrete foundations specifically for mining and mineral processing facilities.

  • Civil Infrastructure Oversight: Oversee civil works, including excavation, embankments, road design, and buried services, ensuring seamless integration with structural elements.

  • Contract & Site Leadership: Act as the contractual manager for civil and structural works. Direct site supervisors and contractors to ensure performance meets safety, environmental, and quality standards.

  • Design & Review: Prepare engineering proposals, budgets, and estimates. Produce and sign off on construction drawings and calculations, ensuring they meet industry-specific codes and standards.

  • Technical Interface: Liaise with clients, project managers, and multidisciplinary teams to solve complex technical problems on-site and in the design office.

  • Quality & Compliance: Conduct regular site inspections and audits to ensure construction matches the initial plan and complies with all safety and statutory requirements.

Professional Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Structural specialization preferred).

  • Licensure: Registered Professional Engineer (PE).

  • Experience: 5+ years in a multi-disciplinary EPCM environment with a specific focus on Mining or Heavy Industrial projects.

  • Technical Mastery: Proven experience in structural design and analysis (concrete foundations, steel structures, and industrial buildings).

  • Software: High proficiency in 3D design for mining infrastructure and structural analysis software.

  • Risk Management: Demonstrated ability to manage high-level engineering risks relating to complex industrial systems and infrastructure.

Why This Role?

This is a rare opportunity for an engineer who doesn't want to be "pigeonholed." You get to own the full civil/structural scope of a project—from the dirt to the steel. Joining this global ECPM group in Phoenix means direct involvement in the massive capital projects currently driving the copper and lithium sectors in North America.
