Job description

The Director of Human Resources serves as the senior field HR leader for Astro Shapes' manufacturing operations, ensuring exceptional execution of the employee experience across all assigned facilities. This role partners closely with Operations leadership while leading a team of HR Generalists responsible for delivering consistent, compliant, and people-centered HR support throughout the employee lifecycle.

Operating within Astro's Center of Excellence (COE) model, the Director translates enterprise HR strategies into effective local execution. The Director serves as the primary strategic HR Business Partner for plant leadership, leading employee relations, labor relations, workforce planning, leadership coaching, organizational effectiveness initiatives, and culture while ensuring enterprise consistency across locations.

The Director develops HR talent, builds organizational capability, and creates an engaging workplace that supports Astro's growth strategy and acquisition integration

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Business Partnership

Serve as the senior HR advisor to Plant Managers and Operations Leadership.

Translate business strategy into workforce and organizational plans.

Participate in operational leadership meetings and Enterprise Operating System (EOS) reviews/deployment.

Drive organizational capability to support growth and operational excellence.

Partner with COEs to ensure enterprise programs are effectively implemented.

Develop plant initiatives and harmonized working practices

Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing team of HR Generalists, building trusted business partners who deliver consistent, compliant, and employee-centered HR support across all manufacturing locations.

Provide strategic oversight, coaching, and direction to HR Generalists on employee relations, labor relations, investigations, performance management, policy interpretation, compliance, and other complex people matters while serving as the escalation point for high-risk issues.

Partner with plant leadership to align workforce strategies with business objectives, including workforce planning, organizational design, succession planning, leadership development, and talent management.

Drive employee engagement, retention, recognition, culture, and organizational effectiveness initiatives that enhance the overall employee experience.

Ensure consistent execution of the employee lifecycle, including recruiting support, onboarding, performance management, career development, promotions, employee transitions, and offboarding.

Lead labor relations activities, including contract administration, grievance management, union relationship management, negotiations support, and interpretation of collective bargaining agreements.

Partner with Centers of Excellence to successfully implement enterprise programs related to talent acquisition, learning and development, compensation, benefits, HR technology, analytics, performance management, and organizational effectiveness.

Support community outreach, workforce development partnerships, apprenticeship and internship programs, career fairs, and employer branding initiatives to strengthen Astro's talent pipeline.

Ensure compliance with employment laws, company policies, labor agreements, and regulatory requirements while proactively identifying and mitigating organizational risk.

Leverage workforce analytics and key performance metrics to identify trends, improve organizational effectiveness, and drive continuous improvement across the HR function.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field required.

Eight (8) or more years of progressive Human Resources experience, including leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.

Demonstrated experience leading employee relations, labor relations, leadership coaching, and developing HR professionals.

Experience supporting multiple manufacturing locations and partnering with senior operational leaders.

SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or comparable professional certification preferred.

Strong relationship-building and communication skills.

Ability to travel regularly between company locations and ad hoc out of town travel

Self-motivated with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Travel Requirements

Frequent local travel is expected between assigned manufacturing locations to provide onsite leadership, coach and develop HR Generalists, and support business operations.

Limited overnight travel outside the local area may be required for company meetings, training, acquisitions, or other business initiatives.
