What is a Hotel Development job?

A Hotel Development job involves overseeing the planning, financing, construction, and launch of new hotel properties or renovations of existing ones. Professionals in this field assess market demand, acquire land or properties, secure funding, and coordinate with architects, contractors, and brand partners to develop successful hotel projects. Their role also includes ensuring that the project aligns with brand standards, legal requirements, and investment goals.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Hotel Development position, and why are they important?

To thrive in Hotel Development, you need expertise in real estate, finance, project management, and hospitality operations, often supported by a degree in business, hospitality management, or a related field. Familiarity with feasibility analysis software, property management systems, and industry regulations is typically required, along with potential certifications like Certified Hotel Administrator (CHA). Strong negotiation, communication, and relationship-building skills are essential for collaborating with investors, local authorities, and internal teams. These qualities are crucial to successfully identifying, planning, and executing hotel projects that align with business objectives and market demands.

What are some typical challenges faced in a Hotel Development role?

Professionals in Hotel Development often navigate challenges such as securing suitable sites, managing budgets, and coordinating with multiple stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle. Balancing the expectations of investors, operators, and local regulators can be complex, especially when projects span different markets or countries. Unexpected delays due to permit issues, market changes, or construction complications are common, requiring creative problem-solving skills. Overcoming these challenges is all part of ensuring new hotel developments are delivered successfully, on time, and within budget.

Job description

Build Hotels. Build Teams. Build the Future.

Seva Hospitality is a growing, entrepreneurial hospitality company specializing in hotel construction, development, and management based in Northern Kentucky/Cincinnati. We specialize in developing high-quality, efficient, and brand-forward hotels. Our team is looking for a Senior Construction Project Manager who thrives in a fast-moving, owner-driven environment. An ideal candidate has a strong background in hotel development to lead ground-up and major renovation projects from pre-construction through close-out.

This is not a bureaucratic role. You will work directly with ownership and senior leadership, playing a critical role in shaping how our hotels are built—from early feasibility through grand opening. Candidates with hotel, multi-family, and commercial experience are encouraged to apply, with strong preference given to those with hands-on experience in Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) construction.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead ground-up hotel development projects from concept through completion
  • Partner directly with ownership on budgeting, feasibility, and design decisions
  • Drive pre-construction efforts including estimating, value engineering, and scheduling
  • Manage general contractors, consultants, and trades with a focus on accountability and execution
  • Own project budgets, schedules, and quality outcomes—no handoffs, no silos
  • Oversee change orders, cost reporting, and forecasting
  • Coordinate with hotel brands to ensure standards are met without overbuilding
  • Solve problems in real time and make informed decisions in the field
  • Conduct weekly site walks, lead progress meetings, and maintain momentum through close-out
  • Support post-construction close-out, punch lists, and warranty follow-up
  • Help refine Seva’s construction processes as we continue to scale

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5+ years of construction project management experience, with a strong focus on hotel development
  • Proven success managing ground-up hospitality projects
  • Direct experience with Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) construction strongly preferred
  • Experience in multi-family and/or commercial construction projects
  • Strong understanding of construction contracts, Gantt chart scheduling, budgeting, and cost controls
  • Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and fast-paced project environments
  • Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., Blue Beam, MS Project, Raken, or similar)
  • OSHA certification or equivalent safety training
  • Willingness to travel as required for project oversight

Benefits:

  • Dental insurance
  • Health insurance
  • Paid time off
  • Vision insurance

Work Location: In person / Hybrid
