About the Role
Our client, a premier upscale hospitality organization located in downtown Minneapolis, is seeking an experienced Hotel Accounting Consultant to support and oversee accounting and financial operations for a high-volume hotel property. This position plays a key leadership role in ensuring accurate financial reporting, budgeting, payroll administration, cash management, and compliance with accounting best practices.
The ideal candidate will bring strong hospitality accounting experience, exceptional analytical skills, and the ability to collaborate across multiple departments while supporting the hotel's financial performance and operational goals.
Job Description
As a Hotel Accounting Consultant, you will assist in managing the day-to-day accounting functions of a large hospitality operation. This role is responsible for financial reporting, account reconciliations, budgeting support, payroll oversight, revenue billing, and cash management activities while helping maintain accurate financial records and internal controls.
Responsibilities include:
  • Prepare and review monthly financial statements, journal entries, accruals, and accounting records.
  • Reconcile general ledger accounts, bank statements, and other financial records.
  • Support the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts, and financial analysis.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.
  • Supervise team members involved in month-end reporting processes and review the accuracy of forecasts and variance reports.
  • Oversee billing, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash management functions.
  • Calculate and prepare daily deposit transmittals and monitor cash handling procedures.
  • Schedule and conduct house bank audits and assist with maintaining financial controls.
  • Support hotel payroll administration utilizing UKG and related systems.
  • Manage and troubleshoot financial systems and software platforms, including system updates and integrations.
  • Collaborate with operational leaders to support financial planning and business objectives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational needs.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Hospitality Management, or a related field.
  • Experience in hotel, hospitality, restaurant, or similar high-volume service industry accounting.
  • Experience managing or supporting hotel accounting functions, including billing, payroll, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
  • Knowledge of financial statement preparation, budgeting, forecasting, and general ledger accounting.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and financial management systems.
  • Experience using hospitality-related accounting platforms and multiple financial software systems.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet established deadlines.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and ability to work collaboratively across departments.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • CPA designation.
  • Previous experience in an Assistant Director of Finance, Accounting Manager, Senior Accountant, or similar hospitality finance leadership role.
  • Experience with PeopleSoft Financials, UKG, and Delphi.
  • Experience conducting financial audits and implementing accounting process improvements.
  • Prior experience supporting financial operations for a full-service hotel property.
  • Knowledge of hospitality industry financial reporting standards and best practices.
