Job description

The Hotel Accounting Manager oversees the daily financial operations of a hospitality property. They manage revenue tracking, accounts payable/receivable, payroll processing, and financial reporting. This role bridges the gap between clerical staff and upper management to ensure profitability and compliance with hospitality accounting standards.



Compensation:

$65,000 yearly


Responsibilities:
  • Financial Reporting & Analysis: Prepare accurate month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial statements. Analyze financial data to pinpoint variances, control costs, and enhance revenue streams.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting: Collaborate with department heads to draft annual operating budgets, track ongoing financial performance, and forecast future liquidity needs.
  • Income Auditing: Supervise the daily reconciliation of rooms, food, beverage, and other departmental deposits. Perform the daily income audit and verify the accuracy of flash reports.
  • Accounts Payable & Receivable (AP/AR): Oversee vendor payments, ensure accurate billing and collections, and manage direct billing accounts and credit limits.
  • Payroll Processing: Administer and process bi-weekly payroll, including the auditing of overtime, tips, and benefit deductions.
  • Cash Management: Monitor daily cash positions, control petty cash, manage change orders, and ensure sufficient liquidity for daily operations.
  • Internal Controls: Implement and enforce strict financial controls to safeguard hotel assets, minimize liabilities, and ensure compliance with USALI (Uniform System of Accounts for the Lodging Industry) standards.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise, train, and mentor accounting staff and Night Audit agents regarding proper hotel accounting procedures.

Qualifications:
  • Education: Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration, although equivalent progressive experience is often accepted.
  • Experience: 1 to 3+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally within the hospitality industry or a multi-unit property environment.
  • Software Proficiency: Advanced capability with Microsoft Office, M3, and Profitsword ideally
  • Industry Knowledge: Deep understanding of hotel-specific metrics, cost controls, and financial regulations.
  • Soft Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills, strong problem-solving abilities, and the capacity to explain complex financial data to non-financial managers.
