Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Group Leader will represent the YMCA personally, professionally and in a manner in accordance with the mission and goals of the YMCA.  The Group Leader, under the supervision of the Site Coordinator, provides safe, motivational and knowledgeable leadership to the members, volunteers, families and program participants.  All Merrimack Valley YMCA staff will help champion a culture of service excellence and support and advocate the mission and values of the YMCA.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work closely with Site Coordinator to plan and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum.
  • Ensure and maintain quality of program and that it meets EEC Licensing Requirements, QRIS Standards, YMCA of USA Initiatives (Active Learning and HEPA Initiatives) and complies with all safety regulations.
  • Program responsibilities include, but are not limited to: supervision of children, lesson planning and daily attendance.  
  • Keep safety as a first priority.  Emphasize personal safety and emotional wellbeing of all staff, volunteers, members, students, families and program participants using the YMCA classrooms and indoor/facility.
  • Maintain the overall cleanliness and appearance of the child care classroom.
  • By personal example help interpret quality of YMCA core values of youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
  • Performs other duties as required by supervisor (remains flexible).

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be EEC Group Leader qualified.
  • At least 18 years of age and meeting one of the following requirements:
  • Have a Bachelor’s or an Associate’s Degree, and three months working experience
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent; and six months of work experience.
  • Have nine months of experience with school age children including three months of supervised experience at a school age child program.
  • Relevant college classes in Education or related field is preferred.
  • Maintain current CPR certification and First Aid throughout employment.
