Job Description

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Work Group Leader to join our Kesselring Site Off?Hull Production team in West Milton, NY! This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled leader who thrives in a dynamic, craft?focused setting and is ready to make a direct impact on facility operations and system reliability.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead and coordinate daily work activities across multiple skilled trade groups, including steam fitters, electricians, carpenters, millwrights, instrument mechanics and laggers.
  • Oversee maintenance, modification and installation activities on high?pressure steam and radiological piping systems, as well as other radiological work evolutions.
  • Plan, schedule and prioritize work based on manpower needs, labor hours, system criticality and project timelines to ensure safe, timely execution.
  • Ensure full compliance with nuclear, radiological, safety and quality assurance requirements, including approved procedures, work packages and technical documentation.
  • Review, validate and approve technical work documents and controlled work packages prior to field execution.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between craft personnel and management, communicating work status, risks, challenges and resource needs.
  • Provide on-site leadership, monitoring work quality and completeness to ensure all tasks meet regulatory, engineering and operational standards.
  • Exercise decision?making authority that directly influences facility operation, maintenance schedules and system performance.

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill
  • High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or
  • Associates degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience; or
  • Journeymans Papers in a related field and a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience; or
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in a related field and a minimum of 1 year of relevant experience.
Preferred Skills
  • Experience supervising skilled trades such as electricians, steam fitters, millwrights, crane operators, instrument mechanics etc.
  • Knowledge of electrical distribution equipment (480V-115KV)
  • Working knowledge of NFPA 70 and NFPA 70E standards
  • Experience functioning as a radiological contamination worker or supervisor
  • Certification or experience as a confined space supervisor
  • Supervisor of asbestos work
  • Scaffold?competent person certification
  • Experience with the Tagout User's Manual
  • Experience supervising work using LOTO controls

Pay Range
$95,700.00 - $149,600.00 annually
Salary information provided is a general guideline only. Annual salary is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation. Naval Nuclear Laboratory personnel are FMP employees who work at four DOE facilities: Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense-owned Nuclear Power Training Unit-Charleston. FMP employees also have an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations. For nearly 70 years, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory has developed advanced nuclear propulsion technology, provided technical support, and trained world-class nuclear operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our nation's submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets. The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is a national asset solely dedicated to the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. We rely on the dedication and innovation of our nearly 8000 engineers, scientists, technicians, and support personnel.
