Job Overview
Georgetown University Group Fitness Instructors are responsible for designing and leading members through safe and effective workouts. Group Fitness Instructors must be personable, self-motivated, and have a passion for helping individuals achieve their fitness goals. Group Fitness Instructors should possess knowledge of basic anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, group class structure, proper form, and cueing.
Work Interactions
The Group Fitness program provides students and members with an opportunity to participate in a variety of group fitness offerings that encourage and support a healthy lifestyle in a fun environment. Supporting Georgetown University's Cura Personalis value, this position allows the instructor to offer individualized attention to participants, providing a unique exercise opportunity. Collegiate recreation participation may hold the key to academic
performance; recent studies show a rise in students' GPA and likelihood of graduation as their exercise and physical activity behaviors increased. This instructor will interact with Georgetown University students, faculty and staff as well as Yates Field House community members, encouraging individuals to partake in a holistic, healthy lifestyle. This position reports to the Assistant Director of Fitness and Wellness.
Requirements and Qualifications
  • Engaging and self-motivated with a passion for helping individuals achieve their fitness goals.
  • Excellent verbal and nonverbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of basic anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, group class structure, proper form, and cueing.
  • Successful completion of a specialized group fitness/exercise course and/or a national certification from a reputable certifying organization (i.e. ACE, AFAA, Zumba, Mad Dogg)
  • First Aid/CPR/AED certification
  • Priority will be given to applicants with one or more of the following:
  • Evening availability at least one day/week
  • Weekend availability at least one day/week
  • Certification to teach Pilates or Zumba (some of our most popular formats)

Pay Range
The projected hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is: $23.00 - $25.00. Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
