Supplier Development Engineer

Position Overview

The Supplier Development Engineer implements product supply strategies aligned with category management, developing, optimizing, and integrating a world-class supply network to create a competitive advantage for customers. This role manages Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) and cost-management activities from concept through PPAP, ensuring parts are delivered at the right quality and total cost while meeting timelines. The Supplier Development Engineer collaborates closely with packaging, transportation, business resources, and supply chain functions, and makes extensive use of Teamcenter and workflow processes to partner with Engineering and Supplier Development Engineers in identifying supplier sources for buy-level parts.

This role provides quality assurance oversight of components and finished products, escalating supplier quality defects for immediate containment and managing quality feedback loops so that lessons learned are applied consistently across the supply base. The Supplier Development Engineer also drives Value Analysis and Value Engineering (VAVE) through cost modeling, design for manufacturability, and leveraging supplier capabilities.

Interaction with Team

Frequent interaction with Buyers, Supplier Development Engineers, Engineering, Quality, and the Engineering Value Chain team.

The team includes 2 team members. This role operates in an office setting within a production manufacturing environment.

Candidate Requirements

Education & Experience:

  • 2 or more years of relevant experience required
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering required (Mechanical, Industrial, or Supply Chain Engineering accepted)
  • Comparable background may include experience as a Supplier Quality Engineer

Top 3 Skills:

  • Communication skills, both written and oral
  • Manufacturing process knowledge
  • APQP process understanding and ability to apply

Additional Technical Skills (Required):

  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematic diagrams, or formulas and computer-generated reports
  • 3D modeling or Creo experience

  • Strong understanding of manufacturing processes
