Salary: $125,000 - $175,000/year +

SUMMARY

The AutoCAD Civil 3D Manager leads the development, implementation, and governance of CAD and surveying technology standards across Kier + Wright. This firm-wide role combines advanced Civil 3D expertise with strategic leadership to improve production workflows, enhance deliverable quality, and support operational efficiency across multiple offices. The position serves as the firms primary advisor on CAD and survey technology, guiding adoption of best practices, supporting staff through training and technical mentorship, and driving continuous improvement through technology and process innovation.


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop, implement, and maintain company-wide CAD standards, templates, workflows, and quality control procedures supporting civil engineering and land surveying production.
  • Audit project deliverables for standards compliance and collaborate with teams to resolve inconsistencies and improve processes.
  • Serve as the firms subject matter expert and advisor on Civil 3D and survey technology strategy, evaluating software updates, emerging tools, and industry best practices.
  • Recommend and support implementation of technology initiatives that improve efficiency, accuracy, and deliverable quality, including preparation of business cases and leadership presentations.
  • Lead adoption of approved standards and technology initiatives by monitoring effectiveness, gathering feedback, and refining workflows.
  • Design and deliver training programs for Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center, and related technologies, including in-person training across California offices.
  • Develop training materials, reference documentation, and learning resources to support ongoing staff development.
  • Provide firm-wide technical support and troubleshooting for Civil 3D and survey data processing workflows, including Field-to-Finish routines and point cloud integration.
  • Collaborate with survey crews and project teams to optimize data collection, processing, and production workflows.
  • Maintain relationships with software vendors and industry partners to ensure alignment with best practices and technology advancements.
  • Other duties as assigned


EDUCATION + EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering, Surveying, Geomatics, or related field, or equivalent professional experience required.
  • Minimum fifteen (15) years of AutoCAD and Civil 3D experience within a civil engineering or land surveying production environment required.
  • Expert proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D including surfaces, corridors, grading, pipe networks, and project workflows required.
  • Strong working knowledge of Trimble Business Center and survey data processing workflows required.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing CAD standards within a multi-office organization required.
  • Strong communication skills with experience presenting technical concepts to diverse audiences, including leadership, required.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities across geographically distributed teams required.
  • Valid California drivers license and ability to travel approximately 25% statewide required.
  • Experience with customization tools (AutoLISP, .NET, Dynamo) or technical training programs preferred.
  • Prior CAD management or technology leadership experience preferred.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Prolonged periods of sitting (up to 8 hours a day for office staff)
  • Interacting with technology (computer, cellphone, etc.)
  • Ability to lift and/or carry items (up to 20 lbs.)
  • Prolonged periods of standing/walking (field checks)
  • Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions (field checks)
  • Occasional travel e.g. driving to offices, jobsites, client meetings, etc.
