Position: Bookkeeper
Saint Francis Xavier of Petoskey
Employment Type: Part-time
Location: Petoskey, MI
DESCRIPTION:
The position of Bookkeeper is to assist with the ministry of the parishes by performing all bookkeeping duties to ensure proper maintenance of accounting records, processing of receivables, payables, and payroll.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • This list of responsibilities is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of all duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job. Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change at any time with or without notice.
  • General Bookkeeping Duties
  • Reviews invoices for accuracy, codes expenses, prepares checks for signature.
  • Processes payroll through payroll system and required journal entries to record in system.
  • Calculates and maintains accurate balances in all bank accounts.
  • Pays all debts on time, without incurring late fees.
  • Maintains parish and school records.
  • Uses an accrual accounting system.
  • Implements electronic funds transfers.
  • Develops and maintains all accounting records and files
  • Gathers data and prepares regular financial reports for use by the parishes and diocese.
  • Prepares a variety of routine accounting correspondence, schedules, forms and lists.
  • Reviews the deposit slips from counters. Prepares bank deposits.
  • Communicates efficiently with parish staff and various committee members.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION:
  • Have good computer and typing skills. Have knowledge of Microsoft Office applications – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher. Willing to learn software used by the parish for accounting/CSA/database/payroll
  • Have minimum of an associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent experience.
  • Understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting principles.
  • Excellent organizational and filing skills.
  • Detail oriented and good with numbers.
PERSONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • A person who is driven by the Catholic faith and willing to fulfill the vision and mission of these Parishes is preferred.
  • Enjoys working with people.
  • An ability to work as a team with parish staff members, ministry leaders, and volunteers.
  • Understands the importance of confidentiality of church records and conversations.
  • Great verbal and written communication skills.
