Job description

The Associate Chaplain PRN position is an on-call position rotating weekend pastoral care coverage 24/7.  The Associate Chaplain is on-call from home from 5:00 p.m. on Friday to 8:00 a.m. the following Monday every other weekend and is not required to be inside the hospital during those hours.  The Associate Chaplain PRN is on-call from home and responds to requests for pastoral care services, mainly crisis intervention, as needed.  When the Associate Chaplain is inside the hospital, they are paid at a higher base rate than when they are at home monitoring for pages/requests.  The ideal candidate will preferably have ministerial experience in pastoral care, hospital visitation and crisis intervention with some training in counseling.  The Associate Chaplain will possess active, non-judgmental listening skills with a passion for serving people who are suffering, ill, grieving or in crisis. This person will be able to come alongside people as they process their emotions regarding sickness, suffering, grief, death and life experience.

Key Responsibilities  

  • Provides pastoral care through routine and/or referral visitation. 

  • Provides crisis and bereavement care during times of deaths, codes, and other emergencies. 

  • Provides pastoral care as appropriate for a special shift or assignment. 

  • Completes assigned goals. 

Experience Minimum Requirements 

1 year experience in providing pastoral care through work in a church, previous service as a volunteer chaplain, or other related ministries. 

Education Minimum Requirements 

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university preferably including coursework in Biblical Studies, Pastoral Care, Psychology, Counseling, or Social Work.
