Job description

Job Description
Reporting to the Director of Spiritual Care and Education, the Per-Diem Chaplain is responsible for addressing the spiritual, religious, and emotional needs of patients, families, and staff at Mount Sinai Hospital. The Per-Diem Chaplain joins a dynamic team within the Department of Spiritual Care and Education, fostering collaborative relationships with interdisciplinary care teams and contributing to the well-being of the Mount Sinai community. The Per-Diem Chaplain position may be temporary or part-time.
Responsibilities
  1. Demonstrate mastery in chaplaincy knowledge and skills.
  2. Foster effective communication with diverse patients, family members, and staff.
  3. Build and maintain relationships with clinical and support staff.
  4. Liaise with hospital and community clergy.
  5. Conduct visits across designated hospital floors and ambulatory settings.
  6. Assess and address spiritual and religious needs, ensuring tailored interventions.
  7. Provide care and support to hospital staff.
  8. Mentor Clinical Pastoral Education interns and residents.
  9. Actively participate in interdisciplinary meetings and initiatives.
  10. Facilitate holiday services, memorials, and special events.
  11. Participate in a daily on-call rotation.
  12. Fulfill documentation requirements, including electronic health record charting.
  13. Present on spiritual care topics to external departments/units.
  14. Participate in department quality improvement initiatives.
  15. Uphold the code of ethics of the Association of Professional Chaplains.
  16. Adhere to all Mount Sinai Health System standards, policies, and procedures.
  17. Achieve and maintain board certification.
  18. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Master?s degree preferred.
  • Successful completion of at least one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education in an accredited program.
  • Experience as a spiritual care provider in a healthcare setting.

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $35.80 - $35.80 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
