Job Duties and Responsibilities:
The Assistant Controller will be reporting to the Chief Accounting Officer and be a key member of the Finance Department, periodically assisting with strategic finance department and corporate initiatives, such as financial reporting enhancements, internal control enhancements, implementation of new accounting standards and traditionally non-finance department activities such as compensation and incentive programs, legal entity structure activities, etc. This position will interface with corporate executives, including the CEO, and external financial partners on a regular basis once fully trained and proven.
Candidates should aspire to have long-term career development in finance and accounting within our organization. Ideal candidates will be analytical, have advanced excel skills; and proven track records for rolling up their sleeves, maintaining a high level of ownership and accountability.
The position will focus on the following job duties on a recurring basis and develop the necessary fundamentals to take on a leadership role in the future.
Financial Reporting:
  • M.C. Dean has a multi-layered, multi-divisional operational financial reporting structure internal requirement, as well as approximately 50 subsidiaries including a growing international footprint, and approximately 30 shared service centers, adding complexities to the traditional financial reporting process.
  • Our objective is simplification and automation of repetitive entries, reconciliations, and reports.
  • Perform more intercompany eliminations., currency conversions, general ledger reconciliations, and corporate allocations, including posting of adjusting journal entries as needed.
  • Assist with preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Assist with annual financial statement audit and corporate tax preparation.
  • Assist with corporate budgeting and forecasting processes and controls, including analyzing and reporting on budget fluctuations - revenue, overhead cost, cash flow, staffing.
  • Work with internal programmers on automation of transactions, reporting, and reconciliations.
  • Assist Chief Accounting Officer and CFO with Finance department and corporate initiatives as they arise.
  • This position requires coordination and communication not only within the Finance department, but more importantly with the Operating Divisions, other corporate departments, and external partners.

Requirements:
This position requires a B.S. in Accounting, coupled with 8+ years of experience, including 3+ years in public accounting. CPA certification is preferred. Experience working in a finance/accounting department of a medium-sized company and/or government contractor, and experience with job cost and percentage of completion accounting, are a plus.
In addition, this position requires certain personal and professional traits:
  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency in Excel. Advanced excel skills are essential.

  • Strong organizational, communication and analytical skills.
