Job Title: Applications Engineer

Job Description

The Applications Engineer leads technical evaluations, quoting activities, and the Applications Engineering team, serving as the primary technical resource throughout the sales process. This role ensures that new opportunities align with business capabilities, customer requirements, and profitability goals while providing technical leadership, coaching, and mentoring to Applications Engineers. The Applications Engineer collaborates closely with cross-functional teams to develop accurate proposals, support project execution, and drive continuous improvement in quoting accuracy and team performance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead technical evaluations for new opportunities to ensure alignment with business capabilities, customer requirements, and profitability targets.
  • Serve as the primary technical resource during the sales process, supporting sales teams with technical expertise and guidance.
  • Evaluate new opportunities, define project scope, and determine both technical and commercial feasibility.
  • Develop requests for quotation (RFQs), conceptual layouts, cost estimates, and detailed customer quotations.
  • Collaborate with engineering, project management, production, and sales teams to ensure accurate and complete project estimates.
  • Manage the technical handoff to engineering and project teams after order receipt, clearly communicating scope, assumptions, and exclusions.
  • Support project execution through design, build, testing, and installation phases by providing applications engineering expertise.
  • Coordinate, document, and communicate change orders when project scope changes, ensuring all stakeholders remain aligned.
  • Drive team performance and achievement of quoting accuracy, margin, conversion, and budget goals.
  • Coach and mentor Applications Engineers, providing guidance, feedback, and support to develop their technical and commercial skills.
  • Support the onboarding and training of new Applications Engineering team members to ensure a smooth integration into the organization.
  • Prepare clear and professional technical reports and documentation to support internal teams and customers.
  • Provide high-quality customer service by addressing technical inquiries and supporting customers throughout the project lifecycle.

Essential Skills

  • Proven experience in technical sales within engineering or industrial environments.
  • Strong engineering experience with the ability to evaluate complex technical requirements and solutions.

Work Environment

This is an onsite role that requires regular presence at the facility to collaborate closely with engineering, project management, production, and sales teams. The work environment involves frequent interaction with industrial and automation equipment, as well as the use of engineering and design tools such as SolidWorks and other standard office and technical software. The position supports projects throughout design, build, testing, and installation phases, requiring hands-on engagement with technical teams and physical systems in a professional industrial setting.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tiffin, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $37.00 - $4808.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
