POSITION AND PURPOSE: The Worship Director leads, encourages, schedules,

recruits, and oversees volunteers and contract musicians as well as facilitates and

composes the aspects of music and liturgy for worship services and special events

at Christ Presbyterian Church, Music Row.

SUPERVISES: Musicians (vocal and/or instrumental), AV and Production volunteers and contract workers

DIRECT REPORT: Pastor, Music Row

PART TIME: 16-20 hours weekly


POSITION OUTCOMES/EXPECTATIONS

Worship Coordination and Engagement:

  • Curate and oversee worship and liturgical culture at Christ Presbyterian Church’s
  • Music Row location. This includes, but is not limited to:
  • Craft weekly liturgy in collaboration with the ministry director and pastor in such a way that worshipers are formed spiritually and warm hospitality is extended to all guests, whether Christian, spiritually curious, agnostic, non-believing, or otherwise.
  • Oversee recruitment, scheduling, and training of staff, elders, deacons, and congregants to fill liturgical roles in service.
  • Oversees Planning Center utilization as well as copyright clearance for music, and other materials used in the worship service.
  • Lead and shepherd musicians. This includes, but is not limited to:
  1. Responsible for recruiting, assembling, scheduling, leading, and empowering musicians from within and outside CPC, ensuring first-rate implementation of the CPC Worship Philosophy every Sunday. This role should lead a minimum of 35 Sundays a year, but ensure worship is planned and covered every Sunday. In addition to these Sundays, they plan and lead worship for Easter, Christmas Eve, and major Sunday events.
  2. Create regular, meaningful environments for spiritual care and community among musicians from week to week.
  3. Shepherd and lead band to support the liturgy, as well as ensure properleadership and oversight of rehearsals.
  • Initiate, encourage, and own of all creative aspects for weekly musical aspects, special events, and initiatives including, but not limited to, Easter, Advent, Worship playlists, etc.
  • In conjunction with the pastor and ministry director, manage and forecast the worship financial budget

Administrative:

  • Schedule musicians and AV team in a timely manner and facilitate invoicing and payment, keeping in line with the Music Row budget.
  • Coordinate and schedule appropriate substitutions at least four weeks prior to scheduled absence.
  • Attend the weekly Music Row staff meeting
  • Utilize Planning Center as the scheduling platform for musicians and liturgists, and coordinate with Children's Ministry and Hospitality Teams for scheduling their volunteers in Planning Center as well. Additional items around planning center include:
  1. Carefully creates weekly Planning Center service schedules, and implements edits based on pastoral staff updated notes.
  2. Keeps weekly Planning Center schedule up to date and clean, with all changes and updates applied to the Sunday Service or Special Service.
  3. Updates Planning Center with new songs, attachments, and people.
  4. Attaches notes, cues, mp3s, PDFs, and all relevant information to the weekly schedule.
  5. Creates weekly lyric sheet for vocalists and lead worshiper review.

Sunday Preparation

  • Prints, organizes, and distributes all documents for music/worship meetings
  • Prepares all documents for walk-thru and worship planning meetings.
  • Attends and helps coordinate weekly worship walk-through meeting.
  • Responsible for running rehearsals and soundcheck at set call times
  • Coordinates food and coffee for band and A/V Sunday mornings

Sunday A/V Team

  • Oversees the A/V team as they edit ProPresenter projector presentations for Sunday morning worship Service
  • Coordinate with A/V volunteer for slides to ensure that the ProPresenter slides are correct for service.
  • Oversee and schedule sound tech, livestream and slides volunteers or contract labor.
  • Troubleshoot AV, livestream, and musical equipment issues as they arise.
  • Ensure the Edit/mix/upload for sermon recording to SoundCloud is handled weekly.
  • Communicates the A/V Schedule/manage livestreams on YouTube weekly.
  • Searches and downloads/purchases sheet music, mp3s, books, and YouTube videos for songs to be included in the Worship database. Attaches these items to Planning Center.
  • Keep e-folders of all downloaded sheet music, mp3s, hymn charts.
  • Attends and helps coordinate weekly worship walk-through meeting.
  • Helps set up the stage as needed.
  • Ensures music budget is kept and coordinated with Music Row staff.
Requirements:

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred
  • Proven experience in leading worship and developing teams in a church context
  • A willingness to share Christian testimony and instruct others in the faith


Experience and Skills

  • High competency in voice and one or more instruments (piano/guitar desired)
  • Extensive experience in music, ministry and worship
  • Strong knowledge of both classic worship music (hymns, historical works, etc.) as well as contemporary and new worship music
  • Composition skills (charts, lifting music, song writing, instrumental, etc.) has ability to collaborate, develop leadership, recruit and engage
  • Strong sense of dedication to the local church

Technical Competencies and Skills

  • Possesses strong oral and written communication skills
  • Works independently with little direct supervision
  • Works effectively as part of a team
  • Displays effective multitasking and time management skills
  • Utilizes all required and recommended CPC computer applications
  • Able to intuitively learn new or updated software
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues

  • Membership at Christ Presbyterian Church is required
