Description
The Regional Executive Director is responsible for traveling to Good Shepherd Hospice Offices across Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas, and Missouri as needed to provide intermittent leadership support in managing all operations, as well as planning, developing, implementing and evaluating all hospice services and market development. While providing intermittent leadership support, coordinates all aspects of patient care, while serving as the hospice services leader, providing direction and supervision for all staff. Up to 80% travel required. 

Ideal candidate for this role would be a: 
  • Located in Oklahoma City OR Tulsa
  • Registered Nurse MUST hold licensure in the state(s) where services are provided. If licensure is not held in all states where services are offered, Good Shepherd Hospice will provide assistance and cover the expenses to obtain a multi-state license. 

Key Responsibilities
  • Travels as requested to individual hospice locations to serve in a leadership role in the absence of a full-time local Executive Director.  
  • May remain in an intermittent leadership role until a local Executive Director is hired.
  • Assists with the onboarding and training of new local Executive Director hires.
  • Provides additional support and training for local Executive Directors whose programs are underperforming.
  • May be called on to assist offices who have openings for Director of Clinical Services (DCS) or Patient Care Manager positions.
  • In new market locations, assists the local Executive Director, President and COO in office start-up processes and procedures including identifying new locations (leases) and hiring of new staff.
  • In new market locations, assists in network development including creating relationships with hospitals, physicians (including identifying and contracting for Main Medical Director and Associate Medical Directors), nursing facilities, potential vendors and obtaining necessary contracts.  
  • In collaboration with President and COO, may also assist existing markets in network development including creating relationships with hospitals, physicians (including identifying and contracting for Main Medical Director and Associate Medical Directors), nursing facilities, potential vendors and obtaining necessary contracts.  
  • When assigned to a particular location for an intermittent leadership role, will provide the following leadership activities:
  • Ensures that all patient and family services offered by the locations within their region comply with federal, state and local regulatory requirements and with accepted professional practice standards.
    • Implements clinical operations policies and procedures and a system of staff communication and supervision that ensures coordinated implementation of plans of care and the utilization of necessary services for comprehensive care of the patients consistent with the philosophy and objectives of the Hospice.
    • Interviews, hires, supervises, and evaluates the clerical and clinical staff based on performance standards as outlined in written job descriptions of the Hospice.
    • Assists in implementing and documenting the orientation and ongoing education of the clinical staff.
    • Maintains ongoing Quality Assessment Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities related to patient and family services, including Performance Improvement projects and chart audits to ensure the quality of patient/family services.
    • Evaluates staffing to provide sufficient personnel for delivery of patient/family services.
    • Assures the 24-hour availability of nursing services to patients/families and coordinates “on-call” assignments.
    • Coordinates the development, implementation and review of the interdisciplinary Plan of Care for each patient/family.  Will lead or appoint a designee to lead the Interdisciplinary Team meetings and assures appropriate documentation.
    • Ensures clinical records are maintained according to federal, state, intermediary, and agency standards.
    • Participates in the budgeting for patient care expenses and monitors expenses related to patient/family services.
    • Serves as a resource person and liaison for the patient care managers, social workers, volunteer coordinator, chaplain, and bereavement coordinator.
    • Oversees the orientation and ongoing education of the nursing staff in hospitals and nursing facilities where hospice has established contractual services (i.e. in-patient hospital beds, nursing home hospice care).
    • Serves as a liaison with vendors and providers affiliated with the hospice on a contractual basis.  Monitors the quality of services provided by these vendors/agencies.
  • May be called on to assist Compliance Officer on a State, Federal or Complaint Survey at a Hospice location.
  • Assist the Compliance Officer, President and COO with education opportunities across the Hospice. 
  • Participates on committees, special projects, and other duties as assigned including state and national hospice organization activities. 

Skills Knowledge and Expertise
  • Registered Nurse must hold licensure in the state(s) where services are provided. If licensure is not held in all states where services are offered, Good Shepherd Hospice will provide assistance and cover the expenses to obtain a multi-state license. 
  •  Minimum of three years of management/supervisory experience in a hospice or home health agency. Multi-site administrative leadership experience in hospice preferred.
  •  Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university or college, preferably with a concentration in business administration, health administration, marketing and/or health services.
