FUNERAL DIRECTOR TRAINEE

Location: Kealakekua, HI & Hilo, HI

Type: Full Time

Pay: Starting at $20-$22/hour (Dependent on skill set and past work experience)

*We are seeking a Funeral Director Trainee for each of our mortuary locations on Hawaii Island (Hilo & Kealakekua.)

NOTE: A funeral director trainee encompasses all of the duties of a MORTUARY ATTENDANT plus the following additional duties and responsibilities that include, but is not limited to, the following as described in detail below:

Under the direct and constant supervision of a Funeral Director and/or Arrangements Officer, coordinate and conduct funeral services in a dignified and respectful manner for the deceased. This will include: proper coordination of events, making of public announcements as necessary, timely coordination with clergy, lay ministers, cemetery personnel, and other individuals or organizations as required, and, working closely with the bereaved family and other family and relatives in provided dignified and compassionate funeral services for the deceased.

This may or will involve longer and/or evening, weekend, or holiday hours, split shits, driving of the hearse- oftentimes to distal country areas for the services (and possibly staying overnight at the local hotel or alternate in that area instead of returning).

Learning off and adherence to a multitude of religious protocol and procedures on each respective church, religion, and minister for each respective service. Learning, understanding and adherence to the various ethnic or multi-ethnic backgrounds, customs, cultures, and desires of each bereaved family for each respective service.

General set-up of mortuary chapel and/or other facility, placing of casket or urn, set-up of floral displays or other tables, easels, etc., and the general timely coordination, supervision and attendance of the normal chronological events of a service up to and including the committal or final disposition site, if necessary.

All of the above will be under the direct supervision, instruction and direction of a Funeral Director and/or Arrangements Officer. This also includes any other duties that will occur and vary on a service-to-service basis.

In the future, and based on exemplary performance and favorable on-going evaluation, will include the handling of some or all of the above duties on your own with minimal or no supervision of a Funeral Director and with all responsibilities and accountability of performance placed upon you, the trainee. May also eventually lead up to becoming a full-fledged Funeral Director in the future, after a period of gaining at least several years of experience in the field under various conditions and types of services.
