Job Description

This position is responsible for all operational aspects of the budget process. The Director’s most significant function is to optimize financial performance. This includes analyzing ROI, diagnosing issues, identifying opportunities, executing corrections and streamlining financial and operational areas to achieve financial performance. Major activities coordinated by this position include the annual budget and budget modification, forecasts, financial statement analysis and interpretation and distilling financial and other information into remedial action plans. The Director also serves as the liaison with the external audit firm in the preparation of the 990 and 990T returns. The Director reports to the Vice President, Finance and Accounting.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

Manage budget and financial data for all UNCF and GMS programs and monitor financial activity of all UNCF and GMS accounts.

Monitor budget versus actual figures and work with department managers to develop strategies to maximize budget efficiencies.

Collaborates with the external audit firm in the preparation of the 990 and 990T returns.

Provide expertise and training on UNCF fiscal policies and procedures, offer guidance in planning budget strategies and provide explanations on specific budget items.

Provide assistance with budget proposals and approves these budgets for submission with proposals.

Track and analyze financial performance measures and report on overall organizational financial performance and individual department operations.

Ensure compliance with established internal control procedures by examining records, reports, operating practices and documentation.

Coordinate accounting activities and deliverables across multifunctional departments.

Collaborate with accounting leadership in overseeing the annual audit process.

Provide guidance and assistance regarding the internal control environment, including educating management, to set the proper tone across the organization.

Work with the external auditors and Vice President of Finance and Accounting to conduct joint audit planning for efficiency and communicate audit results to Senior Management.

Perform follow up activities to ensure audit findings and agreed upon recommendations are being met on a timely basis.

Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

May directly supervise other employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting required; Seven (7) years of financial experience and a minimum of three (3) years of demonstrated supervisory or management experience. 3+ years combined internal and external audit experience, in a regulated financial institution environment, preferred.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of leading-edge data, image and voice technologies including web-related technologies coupled with a record of success using such tools in environments requiring the highest standards of excellence in service delivery. Preference for knowledge of PowerPlan by Questica Budget Planning software.

Demonstrated flexible and results-oriented and people-oriented management styles, with excellent communication and presentation skills- both written and verbal.

Strong customer/service orientation with attention to detail when proposing solutions.
