Girls on the Run Greater Piedmont is a local nonprofit organization that operates in agreement with Girls on the Run International and is dedicated to creating a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams. We inspire girls to be joyful, healthy and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum which creatively integrates running. Our program currently serves 8 counties in Alexander, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Guilford, Iredell, Rowan and Yadkin, NC including over 60 sites, 750+ girls, and 200+ coaches.

 

The Girls on the Run (GOTR) program creates a safe place for girls to grow in confidence and strengthen their self-worth through an introduction to identifying and processing emotions, goal-setting, cooperation, healthy decision-making, and self-respect, while training for a 5K event. Our important mission is accomplished by giving girls the tools to make positive choices for a healthy body and mind, while reducing the many risks they face today. Position Summary

The GOTR Greater Piedmont Executive Director (ED) is a highly skilled non-profit professional that reports to the local Board of Directors and provides vision, leadership, and direction to the council and the broader Girls on the Run organization. The ED will work with community leaders, schools and school systems, non-profit partners, families and youth, and volunteers to create a significant impact in our community. The ideal candidate will have a passion for youth, experience in fundraising and grant writing, business acumen and will have successfully managed community impact programs, including evaluation and measurement. The ED must reside in one of the counties we serve, with a preference for Iredell County.

 

Principle responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

 

Fundraising and Community Relations: Actively garner support for GOTR in the community and develop diverse, sustainable funding streams for paralleled growth of programs and supporting infrastructure.

  • Develop diverse funding streams and long-term plans to support the mission and continued growth of GOTR Greater Piedmont.
  • Oversee fundraising efforts, including sponsorships, donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship, and special events to exceed $165,000 annually, including a focus on grant writing.
  • Oversee the process to fund and award an annual Rhylee Fielding Scholarship.
  • Serve as ambassador and primary spokesperson to raise awareness by building and maintaining relationships with local media, service groups, community providers, corporate groups, fitness organizations, etc.

 

Board Relations:  Partner with the local Board of Directors and GOTR International to fulfill the GOTR mission in the Greater Piedmont region of NC

  • You will report out weekly to the Board on project updates in an action plan via email and text messaging. This should also include budget updates.
  • Collaborate with the Board to identify and plan for infrastructure growth parallel to growth of the program.
  • Cultivate strong relationships and open dialogue with Board members; proactively seek their involvement in policy decisions, fundraising and to increase the overall visibility of the organization.
  • Participate in recruitment of new Board members.

 

Strategy and Programming:  Provide overall leadership to ensure that the GOTR mission is fulfilled through strategic planning, quality programs and community outreach.

  • Develop and implement a 3-year Council Growth Plan that reflects creative program and site development strategies with an intentional focus on growing access and diversifying communities served; establish and monitor progress toward the Plan using the specific Key Performance Indicators.
  • Ensure successful implementation of the GOTR program in schools and community venues; oversee the two end-of-season 5Ks and summer camps; cultivate strong relationships with coaches, parents, participants, volunteers, and sponsors.
  • Enhance GOTR Greater Piedmont’s image by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with other professional and civic organizations.
  • Develop and oversee marketing and communication efforts to successfully promote the GOTR mission and programs.

 

Financial Performance:  Ensure optimal financial health and long-term viability of GOTR of Greater Piedmont in partnership with the Treasurer and Finance staff

  • Maintain processes for proper record keeping and internal financial controls.
  • Working with the Treasurer, propose an annual budget and provide monthly financial updates to the Board that accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.
  • Review analysis of financial activities (income and expense) to discern trends; identify areas of improvement, address problems and develop forecasts.

 

Administration and Operations:  Oversee resources and implement appropriate processes and procedures to ensure the organization runs smoothly, legally, and efficiently.

  • Manage the organization with a business mindset by establishing and implementing efficient systems and strategies.
  • Maintain the appropriate staffing structure and levels to support current programs and future growth; oversee the hiring, development, evaluation, and retention of qualified staff.
  • Ensure required reporting to GOTR International and to local and state funding agencies is provided in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Establish and maintain high ethical standards and accountability for council and program performance and effectively manage associated operational risk.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 3-5 years of demonstrated executive leadership experience, preferably in a non-profit community impact environment
  • Experience working with a Board of Directors
  • Experience in fundraising, grant writing, setting and managing budgets, and financial forecasting.
  • Outstanding communication skills in a variety of environments and with a range of audiences (internal and external)
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and make efficient decisions; flexible and adaptable
  • Experience establishing and implementing best practice operational and project management processes
  • Passion for the Girls on the Run mission and the ability to effectively communicate issues surrounding empowerment, self-esteem, body image and whole-person health
  • A dedication to using the opportunities of this position to increase the Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity and Access of Girls on the Run
  • Proficiency using personal computers, Google Drive and all of its components as well as Microsoft Office (spreadsheets, word processing, email, presentations) and web-based applications and databases
  • Regular access to a reliable vehicle with ability to travel within the counties we serve for programming, events and/or meetings
  • Ability to work a varied schedule, including evenings, early mornings and weekends, when required

  • Emotional Intelligence: Ability to understand and empathize with the perspectives and experiences of others, and to navigate complex interpersonal dynamics with sensitivity and diplomacy.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility to navigate challenges and changes effectively, while remaining focused on the organization's mission and objectives.

 

This is an exempt, 40 hour per week, full-time position in the Greater Piedmont area. The position allows for flexible remote work; however, the candidate must be locally based to provide hands-on leadership and support to our community.

  • Frequent local travel with periodic out-of-state travel to attend Girls on the Run International events and training
  • Ongoing in-person and virtual interactions in community
  • Frequent interaction with external stakeholders
  • High speed internet access required to access systems
  • Occasional lifting of roughly 35-pound boxes of supplies, materials, etc. to waist high level

 

This position offers a starting compensation of $55,000-$65,000 annually commensurate upon experience with a $500 monthly stipend for health insurance. In addition, Girls on the Run Greater Piedmont offers a PTO package, mileage reimbursement (paid at the standard mileage rate) and raises and/or bonuses at the discretion of the Board of Directors. A computer may be provided for business use at the discretion of the Board of Directors.
