Position Summary

 

 

 

Charge Capture Specialist is responsible for ensuring that all charges for supplies are captured and added to the encounter.  This includes identifying, analyzing, reading and reconciling against nursing and physician documentation which are in paper format.  Employee performs the charge capture job demonstrating technical ability, understanding of job expectations and compliance with organization policies and procedures.  The hospital utilizes a Electronic Medical Record, Athena, which is a manual system.  This role will help to improve our paper/manual processes to best processes despite the process are not electronic or digitized.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

   

 

 

  • Identify, coordinate, prioritizes daily work related to Woodlands Specialty Hospital’s supply charge capture activities
  • Works daily to capture charges for supplies based on daily delegation of work by senior employee in charge capture, updates and communications with revenue cycle team on any charges which are duplicated or expired
  • Communicates daily, weekly with leaders and revenue cycle on metrics and backlog proactively. Completes daily activity of Supply Charge Capture given by Team Lead or Supervisor to ensure there is no backlog which delays billing as the processes are manual, communication will occur daily, weekly, consistently
  • Works with Nursing, Agency Nurses, Third Party Vendors, Accounting Staff or Supply Reps who come to the Operating Room and facilitates securing purchase orders and invoices in a timely manner to avoid billing delays. Hands off invoices to Accounting/Accounts Payable in an organized manner
  • Work closely with Operating Room Team and Medical Records to hand off a fully complete billable chart to revenue cycle
  • Analyzes, recommends, and implements policies and procedures as needed to maximize reimbursement for all services rendered in compliance with established commercial payer guidelines
  • Completes regular audits of Master file to ensure data integrity
  • Ensures charge corrections are entered into Athena timely and accurately
  • Coordinates special projects to correction staff and assure timely completion, on occasion is willing to work overtime for special projects
  • Responds to questions from department Coding Coordinators, clinic operations and other revenue cycle staff
  • Performs other duties as requested or assigned by Team Lead, Supervisor, Revenue Cycle Team or other leaders

Qualifications

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
  • Basic computer knowledge.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
LANGUAGE/MATH/REASONING ABILITY
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations
