Office Hours:     Mondays-Fridays 8am-5pm


About Us:  Bonita House is a nonprofit mental health agency with multiple sites in Alameda County and an operating budget of $14.5 million. Founded in 1971, BHI provides social rehabilitation including a full range of Medi-Cal services to adults with co-occurring serious mental health and substance use disorders.

Position Summary

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced clinical training and development manager to join our team. As a Training and Development Manager, you will be responsible for developing and implementing training programs and professional development opportunities for our staff across the agency. You will also be expected to provide training, often in person, to our staff working in offices throughout Alameda County. Familiarity with a range of clinical modalities and human development is important and the ability to lead from a client-centered, trauma-informed care practice. The ideal candidate should have a strong background in behavioral healthcare services, and a passion for supporting the growth and development of our staff.


Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and present comprehensive training programs for staff across various departments and programs within the agency.
  • Collaborate with department heads and subject matter experts to identify training needs and priorities.
  • Design and deliver engaging and interactive training sessions using various methods, including workshops, seminars, and online learning modules.
  • Develop and implement a Crisis Mobile Team Academy program tailored to our mobile crisis teams' unique needs and challenges.
  • Conduct or facilitate required and recommended training sessions across our programs and locations.
  • Collaborate with vendors and third-party training providers to arrange employee registration for and participation in outside training programs.
  • Ensure that training milestones and goals are met while adhering to the approved training budget.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of training programs through feedback, surveys, and assessments, and adjust as needed.
  • Ensure that training opportunities meet our funders' contractual training requirements and provide opportunities for continuing education as per professional licensing boards.
  • Work closely with QI Team members to provide training that enhances our agency documentation, reporting, and best practices in documentation through quality review.
  • Stay current with best practices, trends, and developments in behavioral healthcare to ensure up-to-date and relevant training materials.
  • Identify problems and opportunities such as operational changes or industry developments that training could improve.
  • Provide individual coaching and support to staff as needed to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Coordinate with external trainers and consultants to supplement internal training efforts.
  • Maintain accurate training attendance records, evaluations, and other relevant data.
  • Collaborate with HR to ensure that training programs meet regulatory requirements and professional standards.
  • Participate in agency-wide committees and initiatives related to staff development and quality improvement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications and Requirements

  • Master’s degree in counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or a related field required. LCSW, LMFT, or LPCC required.
  • Minimum of 2 years post-licensure experience working in behavioral healthcare settings, providing supervision in a clinical role.
  • Proven experience designing and delivering training programs for adult learners.
  • Certification as a trainer or educator (e.g., Certified Professional in Learning and Performance) is a plus.
  • BHI conducts background checks on all candidates who have received a conditional job offer. Satisfactory completion of background checks is a requirement for employment with the agency.
  • A valid driver’s license, reliable personal vehicle, personal auto insurance as required by law, and an MVR sufficient to obtain and reasonably maintain insurability under agency auto liability policies are essential job requirements.
  • Occasional local travel as required to fulfill primary job responsibilities and duties.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively engage and motivate learners.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Strong knowledge of evidence-based practices and interventions in behavioral healthcare.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Experience with program evaluation and quality improvement processes preferred.
  • Clinical expertise in crisis intervention; skill in working with the SMI population and with individuals undergoing acute episodes of psychiatric distress; skill in diagnosis and assessment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in a Microsoft 365 environment, as well as with learning management systems and electronic health record systems, etc.
  • Ability to use computer technology to provide interactive training options in person and online.
  • Ability to work as part of a comprehensive community mental health team and represent the agency.
  • Familiarity with community support systems, health care and human service resources, court and police activities, etc.
  • Knowledge of Harm Reduction, Stages of Change, Trauma-Informed Care, and Motivational Interviewing techniques.
  • Understanding and practice of culturally sensitive components of direct service delivery.
  • Ability to build supportive and respectful working relationships with staff, participants, and stakeholders in the community.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.

 

Physical Requirements

Physical demands include continual sitting, typing, and repetitive computer use for up to 8 hours a day. The position also requires frequent communication with others, including hearing and speaking clearly with individuals and groups, in person and via phone and video calls. Ability to lift 15 pounds at times. Occasional local travel (10-20%) required. These requirements are representative of those that must be met to successfully perform the job’s essential functions.
