Job Description

Blue Water Thinking is seeking an experienced and dedicated Expert Human Factors Engineer to join our team, supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). This role demands a highly skilled professional with a deep understanding of human factors engineering, ready to lead studies across multiple workstreams including Risk, Engineering Solutions, Issues, Simulation, and Test. The successful candidate will be responsible for system testing, simulation, forecasting, issue resolution, risk analysis, mitigation, and solution engineering, contributing their expert knowledge to devise strategies, evaluations, and designs that assess and improve products and processes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage studies in multiple workstreams: Risk, Engineering Solutions, Issues, Simulation, and Test.
  • Execute and coordinate activities needed to develop plans, define specifications, capture objectives, and design strategies.
  • Perform comprehensive risk assessments, evaluate alternatives, and assess targeted increment objectives.
  • Suggest redesigns or minimize negative impacts where products or processes are essential, considering all user impacts.
  • Communicate human factors issues clearly to engineering teams and end users, both formally and informally.
  • Maintain a strategy to support the teams' increment objectives with a focus on operational excellence and organizational change through high-performing Agile teams.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctorate Degree in Human Factors Engineering, Ergonomics, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Minimum 12 years of professional experience in human factors engineering.
  • Extensive experience leading cross-functional teams in a structured environment.
  • Deep understanding of research and industry trends in human factors engineering.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional certification in Human Factors Engineering or Ergonomics.
  • Demonstrated experience in applying SAFe's Lean Agile principles and practices.
  • Proven track record of successfully implementing human factors engineering in healthcare or government settings.
Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to visualize and communicate the impact of design changes on users.
  • Experience in a consulting environment or supporting government clients, particularly in healthcare or federal sectors.

Eligibility:

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the required federal public trust clearance for this role.

Compensation:

Salary for this position is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, location, the candidate's particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract specific affordability and organizational requirements.

The proposed salary range for this position is $170,000 - $190,000.
