JOB TITLE: Health Center Director, Galena

Position Summary: Fairbanks is the second largest cities in Alaska. It is home to around 100,000 residents which makes it the second largest city. Fairbanks contains an Army base, Air Force Base, University, and is known for its dog mushing and northern lights. Temperatures in the 80 for summer are common and in the winter usually in the negatives. They have more than 22 hours of daylight during the solstice in June. The Tanana Chiefs Conference (TCC) is a non-profit organization in Fairbanks region that covers an area of 235,000 square miles in interior Alaska, which is equal to about 37 percent of the entire state, and just slightly smaller than the state of Texas. Within our region are six sub regions: Lower Yukon, Upper Kuskokwim, Upper Tanana, Yukon Flats, Yukon Koyukuk, and Yukon Tanana; within our six sub regions are 39 villages.

 The City of Galena provides health care services for the community at the Edgar Nollner Health Center (ENHC). This modern facility offers basic health care, as well as telemedicine, teleradiology, digital x-ray, emergency and consulting rooms, ambulance, and conferencing and administrative facilities. Nurse Practitioners and Physician’s Assistants deliver basic health care and preventative medicine, including pregnancy screening, well-baby checks, and outreach services. Their care is enhanced by regularly scheduled itinerant services, such as mammography and vision clinics.

The U.S. Public Health Service maintains an office at the ENHC and visits regularly, providing immunizations, TB testing, and consultations. Outreach health care services, performed by ENHC providers, are scheduled monthly for the villages of Ruby, Koyukuk, Nulato, Kaltag, and Huslia. The ENHC also coordinates with the Tanana Chiefs Conference to provide health aides for the surrounding villages.

This facility is in need of a Health Center Director. This candidate will provide leadership and management for the Edgar Nollner Health Center, a sub-regional specialty clinic in Galena, Alaska. This position supervises about 15 people including physician, physician assistant, several ancillary medical staff, several administrative personnel, and multiple behavioral health clinicians. Direct reports include staff located in Galena and surrounding sub-regions. The Tanana Chiefs Conference has an extensive rural health care system to support health and promote wellness to Indian Health service an extensive rural health care system to support health and promote wellness to Indian Health Service beneficiaries – Alaska Natives and American Indians, as well as many non-beneficiaries, in 42 villages situated across the river systems of the Interior (Yukon, Koyukuk, Kuskokwim, Tanana and more).

Qualification Requirements:

Oversee primary care, urgent care behavioral health, community health, nursing, billing and registration.

Coordination and scheduling of primary care providers to Kaltag, Nulato, Koyukuk, Huslia and Ruby.

Prepare budgets, reports, grants and quality compliance.

Handle patient and staff complaints and concerns.

Establish good working relationships and communications with Tribal Leaders and Public Health partners.

Master’s Degree in Public Health or Business Admin is preferred.

5 years clinic management and supervisory experience.

Must pass background check pursuant to federal Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act requirements.

Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.

Computer skills including database management, spreadsheets, Microsoft Office Suite, etc.

 Experience working in cross-cultural setting.
