Description
Position at Everyday Health - Consumer
The Opportunity:
Lose It! is looking for a Director of Engineering, Infrastructure to lead the team behind the systems that power our products and business. This role reports directly to the CTO.
Millions of people rely on Lose It! every day to build healthier habits, lose weight, and reach their goals. As we invest in coaching, personalization, and new product experiences, we need an engineering leader who can scale the systems behind them.
You'll lead a small, high-impact team responsible for cloud infrastructure, backend services, our website, developer experience, observability, and the systems that support product development, marketing, and business operations. The scope is intentionally broad: you'll be building the foundation that helps millions of people live healthier lives, and we're looking for someone who enjoys learning new domains, navigating varied technical challenges, and unblocking engineers across the company.
We operate with a high degree of ownership and autonomy. Success in this role means balancing reliability, speed, and pragmatism while helping teams navigate ambiguity, make thoughtful tradeoffs, and deliver meaningful outcomes. You'll partner closely with Engineering, Product, Data Science, and business leaders to keep our systems reliable, scalable, and effective as the company grows.
Work Arrangement: Remote
Travel Requirements: Minimal travel expected
Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a small Infrastructure Engineering team, including hiring and performance management.
  • Own the technical direction for cloud infrastructure, backend services, our website, developer tooling, observability, and operational systems.
  • Improve reliability, scalability, security, and engineering effectiveness across the platform.
  • Make it easier and safer for engineers to build, deploy, and operate software.
  • Partner with Engineering, Product, Data Science, and business stakeholders on architecture, technical strategy, and operational priorities.
  • Lead incident response readiness, operational practices, and service ownership across the organization.
  • Balance long-term technical investments with the needs of a fast-moving product business.
  • Ensure the platform can support the company's next generation of products, experiences, and growth initiatives.

Job Qualifications:
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience, including experience leading engineering teams, managers, or senior technical contributors.
  • Strong technical background spanning cloud infrastructure, backend systems, web technologies, and operational tooling.
  • Experience operating and scaling systems on AWS.
  • Experience with CI/CD, observability, deployment automation, and modern engineering practices.
  • Experience supporting consumer-facing products at scale is strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to lead small, high-impact teams with a high degree of ownership and autonomy.
  • Demonstrated success operating in ambiguous environments and driving progress despite changing priorities or constraints.
  • A growth mindset, intellectual curiosity, and a bias toward action.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Our Technology Environment
Our backend is built primarily in Kotlin and Java and runs on AWS. The team owns cloud infrastructure, backend services, our website, CI/CD pipelines, observability tooling, and a variety of business-critical operational systems.
While this isn't a day-to-day coding role, you'll be expected to stay technically engaged and actively participate in architectural and operational decisions across the organization.
