Is AI replacing web devs?

AI tools are increasingly automating certain tasks in web development, such as code generation and testing, but they do not fully replace web developers. Skilled developers are still needed to design, customize, and maintain websites, especially for complex or unique projects that require creativity and problem-solving. Proficiency in coding languages and understanding of user experience remain essential for web developers.

What does a website developer do?

A website developer designs, builds, and maintains websites using programming languages such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. They may also work with content management systems, optimize site performance, and ensure security, often collaborating with designers and clients to meet project requirements.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of a Website Developer working in a collaborative team environment?

As a Website Developer in a team setting, your daily tasks often include coding new website features, troubleshooting bugs, and participating in team meetings to align on project goals. You’ll regularly collaborate with designers to implement visual elements, and work closely with back-end developers to ensure seamless integration of functionality. Effective communication and version control practices, such as using Git, are essential for coordinating with other team members and maintaining a smooth development workflow.

What is the difference between Website Developer vs Web Designer?

While both roles collaborate closely, a Website Developer primarily focuses on coding and building functional websites, whereas a Web Designer concentrates on visual aesthetics and user experience. Understanding these differences helps employers and job seekers target the right skills and responsibilities.

Is a website developer still in demand?

Yes, website developers are in high demand due to the ongoing need for businesses to establish and maintain an online presence. Skills in front-end and back-end development, along with knowledge of programming languages and web frameworks, are particularly valuable in the current job market.

Is 3 months enough for web development?

For a website developer, three months can be sufficient to learn basic web development skills such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, especially with intensive study or bootcamps. However, becoming proficient in advanced topics like backend development, frameworks, or responsive design typically requires more time and practical experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Website Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Website Developer, you need strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and related web development frameworks, often supported by a degree in computer science or relevant certifications. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, content management systems (CMS) such as WordPress, and web development tools is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and effective communication help developers collaborate and deliver user-focused solutions. These skills ensure that websites are functional, visually appealing, and meet client or business requirements efficiently.

Website Developer / Website Architect

Website Architect & Growth Platform Manager

Lead Web Developer & SEO/GEO Strategist

Trossen Robotics builds robotic platforms, developer tools, and data collection systems for the emerging Physical AI market. Our products are used by AI labs, robotics researchers, universities, startups, and enterprise R&D teams building the next generation of intelligent machines.

We are preparing for a complete rebuild of our website and digital presence. Our current website has served us well, but the company has outgrown it. We are looking for someone to help architect and build a modern web platform that can support product launches, technical documentation, developer resources, lead generation, content marketing, SEO, GEO, and long-term company growth.

Position Summary

Trossen Robotics is seeking a Website Developer / Website Architect to lead the design, planning, and development of our next-generation website.

You will work directly with the COO and CEO/Founder to help define the website strategy, select the technology stack, design the site architecture, create page layouts in Figma, and build the website itself using modern development tools and AI-assisted workflows.

We are open to candidates who leverage AI extensively in their development process. We care far more about outcomes, execution speed, and quality than traditional notions of how code gets written.

A major focus of this role will be ensuring the website is built from day one with strong SEO and GEO (Generative Engine Optimization) principles. The ideal candidate understands how websites need to be structured for both traditional search engines and AI-driven discovery platforms.

This role combines web development, web design, SEO/GEO strategy, and project ownership.

Responsibilities

Website Strategy & Architecture

  • Work directly with executive leadership to define website goals, structure, and priorities
  • Help determine the optimal technology stack and CMS architecture
  • Design scalable site architecture that can support future growth
  • Develop navigation structures, content organization, and user journeys
  • Translate business objectives into website functionality and requirements

Website Design & User Experience

  • Create and refine website layouts in Figma
  • Design page structures, content hierarchies, and conversion paths
  • Collaborate with leadership on visual direction and customer experience
  • Ensure consistency across product pages, documentation, resources, landing pages, and marketing content
  • Balance aesthetics, usability, performance, and business goals

Website Development

  • Lead development of the website from concept through launch
  • Build reusable page templates and CMS-driven content systems
  • Implement responsive layouts and modern front-end experiences
  • Integrate forms, analytics, marketing tools, media, and content systems
  • Ensure the site is fast, maintainable, scalable, and easy for internal teams to update

SEO & GEO Leadership

  • Architect the website with SEO best practices built into the foundation
  • Develop content structures that support search visibility and authority building
  • Understand and implement GEO strategies that improve visibility within AI-powered search and answer engines
  • Work with external SEO and GEO specialists when needed
  • Help guide content strategy, schema implementation, internal linking, metadata, technical SEO, and AI discoverability
  • Monitor and improve organic search performance over time

Project Ownership

  • Drive the website project from planning through launch
  • Manage priorities, milestones, and execution timelines
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders and outside vendors
  • Identify blockers and propose solutions
  • Keep leadership informed of progress, tradeoffs, and recommendations

Ongoing Website Ownership

Following launch, you will continue to own and evolve the website by:

  • Publishing new content, landing pages, and product launches
  • Maintaining technical performance and user experience
  • Supporting marketing and lead-generation initiatives
  • Improving SEO and GEO performance
  • Expanding website functionality as company needs evolve

Required Qualifications

  • Professional web development experience
  • Strong understanding of modern website architecture and CMS platforms
  • Experience building and launching production websites
  • Strong knowledge of SEO fundamentals and technical SEO
  • Familiarity with GEO and AI-driven search trends
  • Experience with Figma or similar design tools
  • Ability to communicate effectively with executives, marketers, and engineers
  • Strong project ownership and execution skills
  • Ability to move projects forward with minimal supervision
  • Excellent attention to detail

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Next.js, React, headless CMS platforms, or similar modern web frameworks
  • Experience with AI-assisted development tools
  • Experience with analytics, conversion optimization, and marketing automation platforms
  • Experience working with technical products, robotics, engineering, SaaS, or B2B technology companies
  • Experience leading a website rebuild or major platform migration
  • Understanding of content strategy, developer documentation, and technical marketing
