Is AI replacing web devs?

AI tools are increasingly automating certain tasks in web development, such as code generation and testing, but they do not fully replace web developers. Skilled developers are still needed to design, customize, and maintain websites, especially for complex projects requiring creativity and problem-solving. Proficiency in coding languages and understanding of user experience remain essential for web developers.

What does a website developer do?

A website developer designs, builds, and maintains websites using programming languages such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. They may also work with content management systems, optimize site performance, and ensure security, often collaborating with designers and clients to meet project requirements.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of a Website Developer working in a collaborative team environment?

As a Website Developer in a team setting, your daily tasks often include coding new website features, troubleshooting bugs, and participating in team meetings to align on project goals. You’ll regularly collaborate with designers to implement visual elements, and work closely with back-end developers to ensure seamless integration of functionality. Effective communication and version control practices, such as using Git, are essential for coordinating with other team members and maintaining a smooth development workflow.

What is the difference between Website Developer vs Web Designer?

While both roles collaborate closely, a Website Developer primarily focuses on coding and building functional websites, whereas a Web Designer concentrates on visual aesthetics and user experience. Understanding these differences helps employers and job seekers target the right skills and responsibilities.

Is a website developer still in demand?

Yes, website developers are in high demand due to the ongoing need for businesses to establish and maintain an online presence. Skills in front-end and back-end development, along with knowledge of programming languages and web frameworks, are especially valuable in the current job market.

Is 3 months enough for web development?

For a website developer, three months can provide a foundational understanding of core skills such as HTML, CSS, and basic JavaScript, but mastering full web development typically requires longer training and practical experience. The timeframe depends on prior knowledge, learning pace, and the complexity of projects involved.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Website Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Website Developer, you need strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and related web development frameworks, often supported by a degree in computer science or relevant certifications. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, content management systems (CMS) such as WordPress, and web development tools is typically required. Attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and effective communication help developers collaborate and deliver user-focused solutions. These skills ensure that websites are functional, visually appealing, and meet client or business requirements efficiently.

Job description

Who You Are

Be Curious
We ask questions, seek to understand others, and stay curious about the problems we solve. Curiosity fuels creativity and innovation - and helps us build better solutions.

Customer First
We put people at the center of what we do - listening with care, acting with empathy, and going the extra mile to support those we serve. Customer First means understanding the needs of anyone we impact - whether that's a customer, a coworker, or an end user - and doing right by them.

Own the Outcome
We take initiative and do what it takes to deliver results. With resourcefulness and resolve, we overcome obstacles, follow through on our commitments, and hold ourselves accountable - because each of us is empowered to make an impact.

About Alchemer

Founded in 2006, Alchemer is a powerful survey and data insights platform that empowers business professionals to make informed decisions. As SaaS application software, it offers user-friendly data collection tools for understanding customers, markets, and employees in real time and communicating this information across an organization. It provides data insights in over 100 countries, with 50K new surveys created and 5M responses collected every week.

Alchemer has tremendous opportunity to continue this growth, based on current market size and the potential for more sophisticated product positioning and a robust sales and marketing engine. Details on Alchemer's products and services can be found on our website (www.Alchemer.com).

What You Will Do

As a Marketing Website Developer & AI Strategy Specialist, you'll serve as the technical backbone of Alchemer's digital marketing presence - owning the performance, conversion architecture, and search readiness of our core WordPress website. You'll be the primary driver of website-generated Marketing Qualified Leads (MQLs), responsible for ensuring the site's technical structure, markup, and architecture are built to support successful search engine optimization. You'll also own the hands-on technical execution of our Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) and Answer Engine Optimization (AEO) strategy - directly impacting Alchemer's visibility, citation, and share of voice across AI-powered discovery platforms like Perplexity, ChatGPT, and Gemini.
This role sits at the intersection of technical web development, data analysis, and marketing strategy. You'll report to the Director of Demand Generation and Web Strategy and work closely alongside the Digital Marketing Manager and teams across Marketing Operations, Design, Product Marketing, Content Marketing, and Demand Generation to execute unified campaigns. You'll also translate complex web and performance data into clear, high-level insights for our Marketing Department and Executive Team.

How You Will Spend Your Days

Site Conversion & WordPress Engineering
Maintain, develop, and optimize our high-performance marketing website and hosting infrastructure to maximize speed, scalability, and uptime.
Lead website conversion rate optimization (CRO) efforts - implementing heatmapping, user behavior analytics, and A/B testing to aggressively grow website-generated MQLs.
Build and optimize demand generation landing pages that convert - working closely with the Demand Generation team to support campaign launches, A/B tests, and lead capture.
Own the on-site user experience - intentionally designing page flows, navigation, and content placement to guide visitors down the funnel toward key conversion points, while ensuring every interaction with the site reflects positively on the Alchemer brand.
Enforce flawless quality assurance across all devices, ensuring web accessibility, security compliance, and exceptional user experiences.
Ensure site architecture, URL structures, page speed, and crawlability meet technical SEO best practices - building and maintaining the foundation that allows search optimization to succeed.
Ensure every page is properly structured and tagged - including schema markup, meta titles, descriptions, and heading hierarchy - so search engines can accurately crawl, understand, and index our content.
Manage and execute tasks in Asana on a timely basis, collaborating with teammates across the organization as needed.
GEO & AI Strategy Execution
Structure site architecture, semantic markup, and advanced data schemas to ensure AI crawlers efficiently index and cite our brand in LLM search results.
Identify and implement AI-assisted automation tools that reduce manual effort and improve the efficiency of digital marketing execution.
Partner with the Content Marketing team to turn web intelligence into actionable content briefs - detailing what adjustments are needed to improve Alchemer's visibility, citation, competitive dominance, and share of voice in AI-powered discovery platforms.
MarTech & Operations Integration
Collaborate directly with Marketing Operations to connect website with CRMs and marketing automation platforms, ensuring seamless lead routing.
Integrate and optimize digital media and tracking scripts, aligning web data with Connected TV, video hosting, and multi-channel marketing campaigns.
Data Insights & Executive Visibility
Actively extract and analyze complex web traffic, user behavior, and business intelligence data.
Look past the raw metrics to surface the narrative - providing clear, actionable insights that help the broader marketing team make informed strategic decisions.
Prepare and present high-level technical updates and performance dashboards for department and executive leadership.

Engineering Ideals & Environment

We operate a fast-paced digital marketing ecosystem built on a modern, integrated tech stack. Here's what you'll be working with:
Core CMS: WordPress on enterprise-grade managed cloud hosting, supported by advanced QA and accessibility monitoring platforms.
Testing & Analytics: GA4 for website analytics, paired with heatmapping and conversion testing tools and a business intelligence dashboard platform.
CRM & Automation: An enterprise CRM and marketing automation platform, with tight integration between website activity and lead routing.
AI & Prototyping: AI platforms for prompt engineering and front-end prototyping, and a dedicated LLM visibility and share of voice tracking tool.
Media & Advertising: You'll help maintain ad serving infrastructure across all platforms and ensure LLM crawlers can access, crawl, and cite our site correctly across all major AI-powered discovery platforms.

What You Bring to this Role

Experience & Leadership
Mid-level experience managing, developing, and deploying production-grade, business-critical marketing websites.
A proven track record of tracking and optimizing web-to-lead pipelines to directly drive MQL growth.
Experience collaborating cross-functionally across multiple teams (such as Design, Content, and Operations) and translating technical concepts into business value for executive leadership.
Experience connecting website architectures with enterprise marketing automation systems and CRMs.
Technical Expertise
WordPress Mastery: Working knowledge of WordPress - including plugin management, template customization, and enough PHP, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to troubleshoot issues and make tactical updates without relying on a developer.

Data Fluency: Exceptional ability to interpret data from analytics platforms and business intelligence dashboards to generate actionable business strategy.
AI Tooling Comfort: Experience using AI platforms (like Claude) for prompt engineering or front-end development prototyping tools.
Preferred Experience (Nice to Have)
Experience with any of the following tools in our current tech stack is a major plus:
Hosting & QA: Experience with enterprise WordPress hosting platforms and website QA or accessibility monitoring tools.
Testing & Analytics: Proficiency with heatmapping and CRO tools, business intelligence dashboard platforms, and LLM visibility or share of voice tracking tools.

AI & Prototyping: Experience with AI platforms for prompt engineering, content generation, or rapid front-end prototyping.
