Job Summary

The Center for Spiritual and Ethical Development (CSED) seeks an experiencedPart-Time Audio/Visual Technicianto support the audiovisual needs of the Pasquerilla Spiritual Center and Eisenhower Chapel. This position serves as the Center's primary audiovisual professional and is responsible for ensuring the reliable operation of audio, video, livestreaming, presentation, and hybrid meeting technologies used for religious services, student organization meetings, conferences, educational programs, weddings, memorial services, and major university and community events.

In addition to providing direct event support, the Audio/Visual Technician will develop theCenter's long-term audiovisual capacityby training professional staff and student employees to confidently set up,operate, and troubleshoot audiovisual systems for routine events.

The position averages approximately10 hours per week, with scheduling flexibility based upon major events and operational needs.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Center's primary audiovisual resource for the operation, maintenance, and support of audiovisual systems throughout the Pasquerilla Spiritual Center and Eisenhower Chapel.

  • Set up,operate, monitor, and secure audiovisual equipment, including sound systems, digital mixers, wired and wireless microphones, projection systems, livestreaming equipment, cameras, digital recording systems, presentation technology, lighting controls, podium systems, and Zoom-enabled meeting technology.

  • Develop and deliver ongoing training for professional staff and student employees on the proper setup, operation, troubleshooting, and care of CSED audiovisual equipment.

  • Create user-friendly operating guides, training materials, and documentation to improve staff competency and ensure consistent operation of audiovisual systems.

  • Provide on-site audiovisual support for major religious services, guest speakers, conferences, high-profile university meetings, weddings, memorial services, andspecial eventsrequiring professional audiovisual oversight.

  • Support hybrid and virtual meetings by managing Zoom, livestreaming, presentation software, microphones, cameras, and participant interaction.

  • Meet with event sponsors, university departments, religious affiliates, student organizations, and community partners to assess audiovisual needs and recommendappropriate equipmentand room configurations.

  • Conduct pre-event testing of audiovisual systems and perform equipment checks prior to scheduled events.

  • Troubleshoot equipment failures and operational issues, resolving problems whenever possible and coordinating repairs for issues requiring outside service.

  • Perform preventative maintenance on audiovisual equipment andmaintainequipment inventories.

  • Recommend equipment upgrades, replacement schedules, and technology improvements that enhance the Center's capabilities and user experience.

  • Assistwith room setup and event support when audiovisual requirements are integrated with event operations.

  • Maintain equipment ina clean, organized, and operationalconditionwhile following University safety and equipment management procedures.

  • Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Center's mission and daily operations.

Position Details

  • 10-month, part-time wage position averaging approximately 10 hours per week.

  • The position is expected to work during the academic year (August through May) and is not regularly scheduled during the summer months unless operational needsrequireotherwise.

  • Evening and occasional weekend availability isrequiredbased upon scheduled programs and events.

  • Compensation ranges from$32.00 to$35.00 per hour,commensuratewith relevant experience, technicalexpertise, certifications, and demonstrated qualifications.

  • Flexible scheduling is available outside of major events andrequired training sessions.

Required Qualifications

  • Professional training, technical coursework, or industry-recognized certification in audio/visual technology, live event production, broadcast technology, or a closely related field isrequired.

  • Demonstrated experienceoperatingprofessional audiovisual systems inconference, educational, performance, worship, or event environments.

  • Strong working knowledge of digital audio systems, microphones, projectors, presentation software, Zoom, livestreaming technologies, and hybrid meeting platforms.

  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot audiovisual equipment and providetimelytechnical support.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively train staff and student employees with varying levels of technical experience.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities and responding effectively to changing event needs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting higher education, conference centers, houses of worship, performing arts venues, or similar environments.

  • Experience providing technical support for live events involving guest speakers, conferences, and large public gatherings.

  • Experience designing and delivering technical training programs.

  • Familiarity with digital audio consoles, Dante audio networking, livestreaming platforms, and integrated audiovisual control systems.

  • Commitment to providing exceptional customer service and hospitality while supporting the diverse religious, spiritual, and ethical life of the Penn State community.
