Overview
The Vice President, Development leads enterprise fundraising strategy, driving philanthropic growth aligned with organizational priorities. This role oversees major gifts, planned giving, and grateful patient programs while personally managing a portfolio of principal and major donors.
This is a pivotal leadership opportunity during a period of meaningful transformation for the Development function. Community Health System is investing in a refreshed, forward-looking vision for philanthropy-strengthening internal capabilities, expanding community engagement, and building a more integrated, impact-driven fundraising model.
Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, the VP partners with senior leadership, physicians, and board members to advance high-impact philanthropic initiatives that support clinical excellence, innovation, and community health.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities
  • Serve as a strategic partner to the Chief Development Officer; help shape and execute enterprise fundraising strategy
  • Design and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan aligned with organizational priorities and growth initiatives
  • Manage a portfolio of major and principal gift prospects; secure six- and seven-figure gifts
  • Evolve and scale major gifts, planned giving, and grateful patient programs to achieve revenue goals
  • Partner with executive leadership, physicians, and board members to identify and advance philanthropic opportunities
  • Lead and develop a high-performing team, fostering a culture of collaboration, accountability, and growth

Qualifications
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Communications, Public Administration, Nonprofit Management, or related field required
  • Master's degree preferred

Experience
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in fundraising, development, or related external affairs roles
  • Demonstrated success securing major and principal gifts, including six- to seven-figure contributions
  • Experience leading teams and complex fundraising programs, ideally in healthcare or a similarly complex environment
