Job description

Provide office and clerical support to assist with the efficient operation of the department.
NSBSD Pedagogy
Requirements
To perform this job successfully, an individual must satisfactorily perform each essential function. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required. Education and/or Experience:
  • Graduate from high school or have a general education degree.
  • Six months to one year of related experience and/or training.

Language Skills:
  • Communicate (speak, read, and write) effectively in the English language.
  • Write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors, staff, and the public.

Preference:
  • Inupiaq-speaking and cultural experience preferred.

Mathematical Skills:
  • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
  • Perform math operations using units of American money.

Reasoning Ability:
  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of non-standard situations.
  • Interpret various instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
  • Must hold a valid Alaska Driver's License.

Other Skills and Abilities:
  • Experience with personal computers and Word.
  • Lift 40 pounds
  • Experience in the use of office machines.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Screen visitors and telephone calls, directing them to the appropriate person or department.
  • Screen and route incoming mail.
  • Compose, type, and copy correspondence and other materials.
  • Maintain a filing system.
  • Obtain, gather, and organize pertinent data as required.
  • Schedule appointments, make travel arrangements, and assemble materials for meetings.
  • Assist with enrollment of students.
  • Maintain accurate student cumulative folders.
  • Maintain accurate personnel and attendance records and report problems to the supervisor.
  • Place orders for materials, verify quantities delivered, and distribute accordingly.
  • Supervise students as directed.
  • Perform other tasks and assume other responsibilities assigned by the supervisor.
  • Support the value of education and the philosophy and mission of the District.
  • Adhere to all District policies and regulations.

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by
