Job description

Position Overview
A growing laboratory organization in Michigan is seeking a seasoned Senior Controller to lead and strengthen its finance and accounting operations. This individual will oversee daily accounting activities while driving financial structure, discipline, and process improvements to support continued expansion.
This role offers the chance to create rather than inherit. The incoming leader will help design and implement the company’s financial framework — developing systems, formalizing procedures, recruiting talent, and building a scalable accounting structure to support ongoing growth. It’s well suited for someone who is entrepreneurial in mindset and motivated by the opportunity to build a function and leave a lasting impact.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee all accounting functions including GL, AP/AR, payroll, and month-end close
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and healthcare/laboratory regulations
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management
  • Establish and enhance internal controls and financial procedures
  • Partner with executive leadership on financial strategy and operational performance
  • Manage audits, tax filings, and external financial relationships
  • Hire, develop, and lead the accounting team as the organization scales

Qualifications
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience
  • Prior Controller experience required
  • Laboratory, healthcare, or regulated industry experience strongly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
  • Experience managing audits and multi-entity environments preferred
  • CPA preferred
  • Proven leadership skills with a hands-on, builder mentality

Compensation
Competitive base salary plus performance bonus and benefits.
