Job description

As a vital member of the Accounting team, the Controller will report to the CFO and assume a strategic role in the management of accounting processes and team. The Controller is responsible for overseeing the general ledger, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and analysis of costs. He/she is accountable for presenting and reporting accurate and timely financial information and analysis.  
Responsibilities

The following responsibilities are essential to this position and are not all inclusive. Other responsibilities may be assigned. 

  •  Participate in establishing financial objectives, operational plans, and policies. 
  • Implement financial plans, policies, procedures, and practices that support the corporate plans and objectives. 
  • Communicate and adhere to financial operating policies and procedures at staff and departmental levels. 
  • Assist in maintaining the firm's relationships with professional services providers such as bankers, independent auditors, insurance agents, plan administrators, and vendors. 
  • Develop internal controls to ensure validity of financial reporting, promote adherence to policies and procedures, and promote effectiveness and efficiency of operations. 
  • Developing accounting practices with collaboration from the team. 
  • Work with the Accounting team to promote team collaboration for a one team approach with the Design team. 
  • Pilot the development of benchmarking, monitoring, and analyzing firmwide and departmental metrics. 
  • Manage annual collection of tax data for CPA (Certified Public Accountant) firm, Workers Comp audit, and 401k audit documentation. 
  • Oversee year-end financial statements 
  • Act as an added resource to management regarding financial matters. 
  • Lead efforts to maintain and enhance the usage of the accounting information system as a Project Management resource. 
  • Assist Project Accountant(s)in Project setup and invoice entry as needed. 

Qualifications 

  • Experience: 10+ years of progressively responsible financial leadership roles, preferably in the architecture or engineering industry. 
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or Business Management.  
  • Understanding that accounting provides a service to both our internal and external clients. 
  • High standard of professionalism. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the organization and with staff at remote locations with a distinctive culture. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills, creativity, and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses. 
  • Enthusiasm for executing positive changes. 
  • Ability to manage challenging issues and handle conflict appropriately.  
  • Technology: Proficiency in a Windows environment is essential. Experience working in Deltek is preferred.
