Controller Intern information

What is a reasonable salary for an internship?

For a Controller Intern, a reasonable internship salary typically ranges from $15 to $25 per hour, depending on the location, company size, and the intern's educational background. Some internships may also offer stipends or academic credit instead of hourly pay. It's important to consider industry standards and the intern's level of experience when evaluating compensation.

Do I need a CPA to become a controller?

A controller typically does not need a CPA license, but having one can enhance credibility and career prospects. Most controllers have a strong accounting background, often with a bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, and relevant experience in financial management and reporting. Certifications like CPA or CMA can be advantageous but are not always mandatory for the role.

What does a Controller Intern do?

A Controller Intern typically assists the finance or accounting department with tasks related to financial reporting, budgeting, and internal controls. They support the Controller by preparing financial statements, analyzing data, and ensuring compliance with company policies. Controller Interns also help with audits, reconciliations, and process improvements, gaining hands-on experience in corporate finance operations. This internship is ideal for students or recent graduates interested in pursuing a career in accounting or financial management.

As a Controller Intern, you can expect to assist with a variety of financial and accounting tasks, such as preparing journal entries, supporting month-end and year-end closing processes, and helping to reconcile accounts. This hands-on experience provides valuable exposure to the day-to-day operations of a corporate finance team and offers opportunities to collaborate with professionals across accounting, finance, and sometimes operations departments.

How much is the salary of a controller?

The salary of a controller typically ranges from $70,000 to $150,000 annually, depending on experience, industry, and location.
