Job description

Profile Films is a highly respected, customer-focused extruder and converter of plastic film located in Grand Rapids, Michigan. For over 25 years, Profile has succeeded by providing exceptional customer service and value-added product solutions for our customers while creating a great place for our employees to work and contribute. Due to continued growth, we are looking for an enthusiastic Controller to add to our team. This position will report directly to the VP of Finance/IT and manage the Staff Accountant. The Controller will play a critical role in ensuring that accurate and timely financial information supports optimal decision making across our organization.


The Controller is responsible for supporting financial accuracy, operational efficiency, and cost management. This role partners closely with Supply Chain and Operations to manage resin purchasing activities, maintains accurate fixed asset and capital project records, performs monthโ€‘end closing procedures, and supports the preparation of internal and external financial statements. The ideal candidate is analytical, detailโ€‘oriented, and skilled at collaborating crossโ€‘functionally in a manufacturing environment. Additionally, the candidate must maintain a high level of confidentiality.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial statement preparation - prepare and post monthly journal entries, including accruals, prepaids, inventory adjustments, and cost allocations.
  • Analyze monthly results and support variance explanations for management review.
  • Maintain and document close processes to support accuracy, consistency, and audit readiness.
  • Reconcile key balance sheet accounts and ensure timely resolution of discrepancies.
  • Partner with Procurement to process raw material and capital purchases and evaluate supplier performance.
  • Analyze raw material usage, variances, and material cost trends.
  • Ensure accurate and timely entry of purchase orders, pricing updates, and cost changes into the ERP system.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls and accounting policies.
  • Build out the ERP modules.
  • Maintain the fixed asset ledger, including additions, disposals, transfers, and depreciation.
  • Review and track capital expenditure requests to ensure proper approval and coding.
  • Reconcile CIP (Construction in Progress) accounts and close completed projects in a timely manner.
  • Provide reporting and insights on capital spending versus budget.


Qualifications:

  • A Bachelorโ€™s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • 3+ years of experience in cost accounting or manufacturing finance.
  • Ability to treat customers, vendors and coworkers with respect and professionalism.
  • Strong understanding of cost accounting, inventory valuation, and fixed asset accounting.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • ERP system experience required (Sage 100 a plus)
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Strong skillset safeguarding confidential information.
