What we are looking for:

The Assistant Controller plays a critical role in managing the financial operations of an organization. They assist the Controller in maintaining financial integrity, ensuring accurate reporting, and managing accounting functions. The role involves overseeing daily accounting activities, preparing financial statements, ensuring compliance with regulations, and contributing to financial planning and analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Financial Management:

    ยท Assist in preparing accurate and timely financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow reports.

    ยท Manage and oversee general ledger activities, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.

    ยท Support budget preparation and variance analysis.

    ยท Perform account reconciliations and ensure timely resolution of discrepancies.

    ยท Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and external regulations.

    ยท Supervise accounting staff, including accounts payable/accounts receivable for Michigan and Colorado locations.

    ยท Provide training, guidance, and performance feedback to the accounting team and training all new hires.

    ยท Assist in developing and implementing process improvements for increased efficiency.

    ยท Collaborate in the implementation and management of financial systems.

    ยท Support the Controller in financial planning, forecasting, and strategy development.

    ยท Identify opportunities for process optimizations.

    ยท Provide explanation for variances in monthly reporting.

  • Qualifications

    ยท Minimum of five years of progressive accounting experience with time spent in a leadership or management role.

    ยท BA/BS in Accounting or Finance.

    ยท Sage and Power BI experience is a plus.

    ยท Experience with preparing consolidating financial statements in accordance with GAAP.

    ยท Demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing accounting processes and procedures including prior work experience with standard costing methods.

    ยท Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end / year end close process.

    ยท Significant hands-on experience in Microsoft Excel.

    ยท Team-oriented, deadline-driven individual with strong interpersonal, organization and communication skills.
