Job description

Auto Warehousing (AWC) has been family-owned and operated for more than 50 years and is North America's leader in finished vehicle logistics. AWC is hiring a Division Controller for our Regional Office location in Dearborn MI with a hybrid work setting, including 3 days a week at our Dearborn office. This is a salaried position that is paid weekly plus yearly Bonus eligible. The successful candidate's actual pay will be based on various factors, such as qualifications, experience, internal equity, and market considerations.

Purpose
The Division Controller is responsible for the overall statement review and analysis for a designated division within a multi-state, privately held company. This role serves as a critical link between the division's operational leadership and the Corporate Finance team, ensuring financial integrity, transparency, and alignment with company-wide standards and objectives.
The Division Controller will manage the month-end close process for the division, prepare month-end accruals and assist with budgeting and forecasting. In addition to ensuring compliance with GAAP and internal policies, this role provides meaningful financial analysis and insights to support strategic decision-making, drive operational efficiency, and enhance overall business performance.
This position requires a hands-on, proactive leader who can balance day-to-day accounting responsibilities with forward-looking financial planning and analysis. The Division Controller will play a key role in strengthening internal controls, standardizing processes across a multi-state environment, and identifying opportunities for continuous improvement. Success in this role requires strong business acumen, the ability to influence and partner with cross-functional leaders, and a commitment to delivering accurate, timely, and actionable financial information.
Essential Duties
  • Oversee the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes for the division.
  • Prepare month-end accruals and Balance Sheet account reconciliations.
  • Prepare and review accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Analyze financial results, identify trends, and provide insights to division leadership.
  • Ensure proper revenue recognition, cost allocation, and expense management.
  • Support operational decision-making through financial modeling, forecasting, and analysis.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to improve financial performance and operational efficiency.
  • Participate in the annual budgeting process and periodic forecasting for the division.
  • Monitor performance against budget and provide variance analysis.
  • Work with the Corporate Controller to maintain and strengthen internal controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements across multiple states.
  • Support audits (internal and external) and ensure timely resolution of findings.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline financial processes and improve accuracy and efficiency.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the division and across the broader Finance team.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field
  • CPA or CMA strongly preferred
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting/finance experience, including experience in a multi-entity and/or multi-state environment
  • Prior experience in a controller or senior accounting role preferred
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
  • Proven ability to analyze complex financial data and communicate insights clearly
  • Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and organizational skills
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence at all levels
  • Proficiency in ERP systems and advanced Excel skills
