Starting Salary Range: $125,000 - $156,725; depending on experience

Position Overview:
The Senior Business Development Representative is responsible for securing mechanical construction projects through strategic marketing, clear communication, and effective negotiation. This role focuses on building lasting client relationships, identifying new opportunities, and supporting successful project acquisition and delivery.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Identify and pursue new project opportunities and long-term client relationships with private clients and general contractors.
    • Maintain and regularly update a list of target clients.
    • Utilize diverse sources to identify potential clients.
    • Conduct outreach through cold calls, warm calls, and scheduled appointments.
    • Communicate UMC's value proposition through meetings, calls, and written correspondence.
    • Secure invitations to bid on private projects.
  • Identify and pursue project opportunities with public entities.
    • Monitor multiple sources for advertised projects.
    • Maintain active registrations on public procurement platforms.
  • Participate in go/no-go decision-making processes for potential opportunities.
  • Prepare clear, detailed, and professional proposals tailored to client needs.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with engineering firms.
  • Develop conceptual estimates for prospective projects.
  • Build and sustain client relationships across industry sectors.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of project contracts, including general conditions, scope of work, and specifications.
  • Ensure all documentation aligns with UMC standards and contractual requirements.
  • Follow UMC's Safety Program when visiting job sites.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and uphold UMC's Core Values.
  • Collaborate with the UMC Marketing Group to contribute content for marketing materials and proposals.
  • Coordinate with early works equipment vendors and suppliers.
  • Manage early works subcontractors.
  • Support early work contract initiation, including rates and terms.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance, as this is an essential function of the role.

Secondary Responsibilities:
  • Review contract drawings, detailed drawings, and specifications.
  • Provide support and coordination with project teams during preconstruction phases as needed.
  • Participate in internal business development meetings and contribute insights.
  • Assist in the bidding process and acquisition of new projects.
  • Perform design-related tasks as required.

Position Requirements
Required Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong sales, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Solid understanding of client processes and needs.
  • Working knowledge of construction materials and methods.
  • High attention to detail to prevent costly errors.
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic and results-oriented mindset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Project.

Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Minimum of five years of experience in business development or sales within the local industrial market.
  • Degree in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Chemical Engineering is preferred.

Required Licensing and Other Certifications:
  • Maintain a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
  • Successful completion of a background check.
