Job description

Sales Director

Location: New York, NY

Hours: Full-Time

Reports To: COO

About the Role

Our client, a fast-growing solar design and installation company based in New York City, is looking for a driven and experienced Sales Director to elevate their solar sales operation and lead the next phase of growth. This is a high-impact leadership role for someone who brings deep knowledge of the residential solar market, a structured approach to sales process, and a genuine passion for building high-performing teams.

Reporting to the COO and serving on the leadership team, the Sales Director will own the full sales function โ€” from process design and team training to pipeline metrics and accountability culture. This role is designed for a leader who is ready to step in, establish credibility with a tenured team, and help it grow. .

What Youโ€™ll Do

Sales Leadership & Strategy

  • Own and drive monthly, quarterly, and annual residential solar sales targets.
  • Design and implement a structured, repeatable sales process that scales with the business.
  • Participate in leadership meetings as the voice of the sales function.
  • Develop territory and channel strategies to expand the companyโ€™s footprint across NYC.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Director to optimize lead flow, conversion, and follow-up processes.

Team Development & Accountability

  • Lead, coach, and grow a tenured sales team.
  • Establish clear KPIs, metrics, and accountability frameworks across the sales function.
  • Deliver hands-on training in your sales methodology, ensuring consistency and adoption across the team.
  • Provide regular and impactful feedback and mentorship to direct reports.
  • Foster an environment of initiative, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Process & Technology

  • Optimize CRM workflows to improve reporting, forecasting, and team productivity.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for AI-assisted and virtual sales to expand reach and efficiency.
  • Analyze pipeline data, close rates, and customer behavior to drive continuous process improvements.

Culture & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Build strong relationships across a tenured, close-knit team โ€” earning trust through consistency and results.
  • Build a culture โ€ฆ
  • Work cross-functionally with Operations, Design, and Customer Experience to ensure a seamless customer experience.
  • Represent the company at industry events, trade shows, and community engagements.
  • Carry out additional duties as required by the leadership team.
What Weโ€™re Looking For

Required:

  • Residential solar sales experience โ€” this is non-negotiable; you must know the space.
  • Demonstrated track record leading and growing sales teams, ideally 10+ reps.
  • A clear, teachable sales methodology that you have implemented and refined.
  • Strong process orientation โ€” you build systems, not just close deals.
  • Experience driving sales culture change โ€” accountability, metrics, and initiative.
  • Comfort working with CRM platforms (Salesforce or equivalent) and data-driven reporting.
  • Excellent communication, coaching, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage change within a tenured workforce โ€” relationship-builder first.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with AI-assisted or virtual sales tools and strategies.
  • Familiarity with NYC residential housing and construction market.
  • Background in high-growth, entrepreneurial environments.
  • Spanish-speaking is a plus.
Compensation & Perks

Competitive compensation commensurate with experience, including base salary and performance-based incentives. Base salary in the range ofย $130-$170K with bonus and commissionsย getting to ~$250-300K OTE.

Benefits:

  • Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance โ€” employer covers 100% of employee premiums on select medical plans
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan (Traditional & Roth) with 4% tiered company matching โ€” eligible after 6 months
  • Quarterly profit-sharing bonus
  • Paid Time Off + 11 company holidays
  • Pre-tax commuter transportation benefit (MTA MetroCard)
  • HSA and FSA options
  • Free Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
