Job description

Overview
The Executive Director of Revenue Cycle Management (ED RCM) is responsible for the operational leadership and performance of the Medical Group's revenue cycle. This role oversees call center, mid-cycle (charge capture, coding and revenue integrity), and back-end revenue cycle functions and ensures consistent execution of policies, workflows, and performance expectations across all Medical Group practices.
The ED RCM operationalizes revenue cycle strategy, drives KPI performance, and ensures Epic Revenue Cycle-enabled workflows support accurate charge capture, timely billing, regulatory compliance, and optimal cash flow, with scope and priorities aligned to evolving organizational needs, reporting jointly to the Medical Group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and ODU Chief Revenue Officer (CRO).
Department Objective:
The Medical Group Revenue Cycle function ensures the financial integrity and sustainability of Medical Group operations by delivering accurate charge capture, compliant billing, effective payer management, and timely collections across all practices. The department drives standardized, data-driven, and Epic-enabled revenue cycle operations that support access to care, regulatory compliance, and optimized cash flow while enabling enterprise visibility, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
  • Leading end-to-end Medical Group revenue cycle operations, including call center, mid-cycle (charge capture, coding, and revenue integrity), and back-end billing and collections functions.
  • Driving revenue cycle performance and accountability through ownership of key operational KPIs, including denial rates, clean claim rates, accounts receivable aging, and net collection performance.
  • Operationalizing revenue cycle strategy in partnership with the Chief Revenue Officer, ensuring alignment with enterprise priorities, governance structures, and financial objectives.
  • Ensuring effective use and optimization of Epic Revenue Cycle systems, including workflow standardization, reporting, security design, and ongoing performance improvement.
  • Maintaining regulatory compliance and revenue integrity, including oversight of billing quality, coding accuracy, audit readiness, and adherence to payer and regulatory requirements.
  • Building and leading a high-performing revenue cycle leadership team, fostering accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement across all Medical Group practices.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Finance, or related field required; Master's degree preferred
  • 8-10+ years of progressive experience in physician or Medical Group revenue cycle management
  • Demonstrated experience leading end-to-end professional revenue cycle operations in a multi-specialty physician practice, preferably within an academic medical center
  • Strong knowledge of revenue cycle workflows, healthcare billing regulations, coding guidelines, and payer reimbursement methodologies
  • Experience overseeing Epic revenue cycle operations and operational reporting
  • Proven ability to lead managers and supervisors and hold teams accountable for operational and financial outcomes
  • Experience driving performance improvement, operational efficiency, and change initiatives
  • Strong analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Finance, or related field preferred
  • One or more of the following certifications preferred:
    • AAHAM Certified Revenue Cycle Executive (CRCE)
    • Certified Revenue Cycle Professional (CRCP)
    • Certified Healthcare Access Management (CHAM)
    • Certified Revenue Cycle Executive-Instructional (CRCE-I)
