What are remote events?

Remote events are gatherings, meetings, or activities that take place virtually rather than in a physical location. These events use online platforms and tools to connect participants from different geographical areas, allowing them to interact, collaborate, and engage from the comfort of their own spaces. Examples of remote events include webinars, virtual conferences, online workshops, and digital networking sessions. They offer flexibility and accessibility, making it easier for people to attend and participate without the need for travel.

What are common challenges faced by professionals working in remote events coordination, and how can they be managed?

Professionals in remote events coordination often face challenges such as maintaining clear communication across time zones, ensuring attendee engagement in a virtual format, and troubleshooting technical issues quickly. To manage these challenges, it’s important to use reliable communication and collaboration tools, prepare detailed contingency plans, and actively engage participants through interactive elements like polls or breakout rooms. Regular check-ins with team members and thorough rehearsals before live events can also help minimize disruptions and create a smoother experience for everyone involved.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote events coordinator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Events Coordinator, you need strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and experience in event planning or project management, often supported by a relevant degree or certification. Familiarity with virtual event platforms (such as Zoom, Hopin, or Microsoft Teams), registration software, and digital collaboration tools is typically required. Excellent communication, problem-solving abilities, and adaptability help you manage remote teams and engage virtual audiences effectively. These skills ensure seamless event execution, high participant satisfaction, and successful outcomes in a virtual environment.

What is the difference between Remote Events vs Remote Event Coordinators?

Job description

Director of Media & Events
Department: Marketing
Employment Type: Full Time
Location: Remote - USA
Reporting To: VP of Marketing
Compensation: $130,000 - $160,000 / year
Description
The Director of Media & Events is a highly visible, externally facing leader responsible for elevating Summit K12's brand through strategic events, media, partnerships, and industry relationships. This person will lead our Media & Events team while serving as a key representative of Summit K12 at conferences, media events, podcasts, and partner engagements.
The ideal candidate brings a strong combination of executive presence, relationship-building skills, business acumen, and hands-on media and events experience. They should be equally comfortable presenting or emceeing in front of a large audience, interviewing education leaders on camera, negotiating a sponsorship agreement, and leading a team through the successful execution of a major conference.
Because this role regularly represents Summit K12 in partnerships, events, interviews, and engagements conducted in both English and Spanish, professional fluency in both languages is required. Experience within K-12 education or EdTech is also strongly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
Media, Brand & External Presence
  • Serve as a highly visible brand ambassador for Summit K12 at conferences, partner events, media engagements, podcasts, and other industry events.
  • Host and facilitate interviews with educators, district leaders, industry partners, Hall of Fame honorees, and other prominent education leaders.
  • Serve as an emcee, moderator, interviewer, and presenter at major events and conferences.
  • Represent Summit K12 confidently and authentically across appropriate media and event settings.
  • Partner with external media and podcast production partners to develop compelling content and ensure high-quality execution.
  • Coordinate Summit K12 podcast programming and facilitators, ensuring consistent quality, messaging, scheduling, and execution.
  • Identify opportunities to expand Summit K12's visibility and strengthen the brand through media, events, and strategic partnerships.

Strategic Partnerships & Relationship Management
  • Build, strengthen, and manage relationships with key education associations, industry organizations, education leaders, and strategic partners.
  • Serve as a primary relationship owner for major partnerships and sponsorships, including organizations such as NABE, CABE, ALAS, and TABE.
  • Help manage relationships with prominent education leaders and external stakeholders, including former senior education officials and association leadership.
  • Lead conversations regarding sponsorship opportunities, media activations, conference presence, and other partnership opportunities.
  • Negotiate sponsorships, media packages, event opportunities, and contracts with a strong understanding of both brand value and business objectives.
  • Ensure Summit K12 delivers on partnership commitments while identifying opportunities to deepen relationships and increase their impact.

Events & Conferences
  • Provide strategic oversight for Summit K12's conference and event presence, ensuring events support broader Marketing and business objectives.
  • Oversee planning and execution of major conferences, sponsorships, media lounges, customer events, and industry activations.
  • Partner closely with the Events Marketing Manager on conference planning, budgets, logistics, lead generation, and ROI.
  • Oversee and help execute the annual Multilingual Hall of Fame event in partnership with NABE.
  • Evaluate event and sponsorship opportunities and make recommendations based on audience, strategic value, brand exposure, and potential business impact.
  • Ensure Summit K12 maintains a polished, consistent, and high-impact presence across events.

Team Leadership & Execution
  • Lead the Media & Events team, currently including the Events Marketing Manager, Media Production Manager, and Video Editor.
  • Set priorities and provide clear direction across events, media production, podcasts, interviews, and partnership initiatives.
  • Balance strategic leadership with a willingness to be hands-on when needed, particularly during major conferences and media events.
  • Manage external production and media partners, including accountability for timelines, quality, budgets, and deliverables.
  • Develop team members through coaching, feedback, goal setting, and performance management.
  • Partner closely with Product Marketing, Sales, and other teams to ensure media and event initiatives support Summit K12's broader goals.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  1. Extensive experience leading media, events, strategic partnerships, or a combination of these functions.
  2. Strong executive presence with demonstrated experience presenting, moderating, interviewing, or emceeing in front of large audiences.
  3. Professional fluency in English and Spanish is required.
  4. Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships with senior external stakeholders and represent an organization at a high level.
  5. Experience negotiating sponsorships, partnerships, contracts, or event/media agreements.
  6. Strong business acumen and ability to evaluate opportunities based on brand impact, audience reach, cost, and business value.
  7. Experience leading and developing a team while remaining comfortable working hands-on when necessary.
  8. Strong project management skills with experience overseeing multiple high-profile events and media initiatives simultaneously.
  9. K-12 education or EdTech industry experience strongly preferred.
  10. Existing knowledge of or relationships within K-12 education associations and educator communities is a plus.
  11. Ability to communicate naturally and credibly with educators, district leaders, association executives, and other education stakeholders.
  12. Based in the Dallas-Fort Worth area with the ability to travel regularly for conferences, events, recordings, and partner meetings.
