Job description

Responsibilities & Expectations: 

The Purchasing Specialist is responsible for supporting purchasing, material procurement, vendor coordination, stockroom activities, logistics coordination, and related operational needs for IPS Cleveland. This position will help ensure materials, parts, supplies, and services are ordered and received in a timely manner to support shop jobs, field service needs, and day-to-day operations.

  • Purchase materials, parts, supplies, services, and other items required to support shop operations.
  • Obtain pricing, availability, lead times, and delivery information from vendors.
  • Issue purchase orders in accordance with company procedures and approval requirements.
  • Monitor open purchase orders and follow up with vendors to confirm order status, delivery dates, and changes.
  • Expedite critical materials when required to support production schedules and customer commitments.
  • Communicate material status, delays, risks, and expected delivery dates to appropriate internal personnel.
  • Assist with sourcing alternate vendors or materials when needed to support schedule, quality, or cost objectives.
  • Support cost control efforts through competitive pricing, quote comparison, vendor communication, and proper purchasing discipline.
  • Assist with internal and outsourced logistics coordination, including freight, pickup, delivery, and transportation needs.
  • Support stockroom activities as needed, including ordering, inventory organization, material availability, and replenishment of commonly used parts and supplies.
  • Assist with urgent operational needs when priorities change due to customer requirements, schedule changes, or production demands.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Willingness to learn purchasing, vendor coordination, logistics support, and stockroom-related processes.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Ability to follow up consistently with vendors and internal departments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced service repair environment.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office or similar business systems.
  • Professional attitude and willingness to support the needs of the business.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in purchasing, procurement, supply chain, logistics, stockroom, inventory, manufacturing support, or a related field.
  • Experience in an electric motor repair, industrial service, manufacturing, field service, or heavy repair environment.
  • Experience coordinating freight, pickup, delivery, or other logistics activities.
  • Familiarity with inventory management, stockroom support, and material control.
  • Experience working with ERP, purchasing, or inventory systems.

Pay Rate Details:
$60,000 - $75,000 per year
