Director Purchasing Jobs in Ohio (NOW HIRING)

The Procurement Director is a strategic leader responsible for developing and executing the sourcing, procurement, and supplier management strategy for Acoust-A-Fiber's multi-site manufacturing operations. This role oversees the procurement of direct and indirect materials, services, capital equipment, and supply chain initiatives that support business growth, operational excellence, and profitability.

The Procurement Director partners closely with Operations, Engineering, Quality, Program Management, Finance, and Executive Leadership to ensure uninterrupted supply, optimize total cost of ownership, mitigate supply chain risk, and drive continuous improvement across the organization. This position is responsible for building a high-performing procurement organization capable of supporting the company's growth within the automotive industry.

Primary Responsibilities

Strategic Procurement Leadership

• Develop and execute a global procurement strategy aligned with company objectives for growth, profitability, operational excellence, and customer satisfaction.
• Lead all procurement activities for direct materials, indirect materials, capital equipment, tooling, and services across multiple manufacturing facilities.
• Drive annual cost reduction initiatives through strategic sourcing, supplier negotiations, value engineering, and productivity programs.
• Develop long-term commodity strategies and market intelligence to proactively manage pricing volatility and supply chain risks.

Supplier Management & Strategic Sourcing

• Establish and maintain strategic partnerships with key suppliers to improve quality, delivery, innovation, service, and cost competitiveness.
• Lead sourcing activities, including RFQs, RFIs, supplier selection, contract negotiations, and supplier performance management.
• Identify, qualify, and develop new suppliers to strengthen the supply chain and support business growth initiatives.
• Drive supplier consolidation and leverage corporate spending to maximize purchasing power.
• Develop supplier scorecards and performance metrics to ensure continuous improvement and accountability.

Supply Chain & Risk Management

• Ensure continuity of supply through proactive risk assessment, capacity analysis, and contingency planning.
• Monitor market conditions, commodity trends, and global supply chain developments to mitigate business risks.
• Lead escalation efforts regarding supplier shortages, quality issues, logistics challenges, and capacity constraints.
• Collaborate with Operations and Planning teams to optimize inventory levels while maintaining customer delivery performance.

Financial & Contract Management

• Deliver annual purchasing budget objectives and year-over-year material cost reduction targets.
• Lead contract development, negotiations, and administration, ensuring favorable commercial terms and risk mitigation.
• Ensure all purchasing agreements comply with company policies, legal requirements, and industry standards.
• Monitor procurement performance through KPIs including cost savings, supplier performance, inventory turns, and material inflation management.

Leadership & Team Development

• Lead, coach, and develop the purchasing organization, including Buyers and other procurement professionals.
• Establish performance expectations, succession planning, and professional development initiatives.
• Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
• Build cross-functional alignment among Purchasing, Engineering, Operations, Quality, and Finance teams.

Business Partnership

• Serve as a key member of the leadership team, contributing to strategic business decisions and growth initiatives.
• Support new product launches, customer programs, and capital expansion projects from a sourcing and supplier readiness perspective.
• Collaborate with Engineering and Operations on value analysis/value engineering (VA/VE) initiatives to improve product competitiveness.
• Ensure procurement supports company objectives related to Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Talent (SQDCT).

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, Engineering, Logistics, or related field.
• Minimum 10 years of progressive procurement and supply chain leadership experience within a manufacturing environment.
• Minimum 5 years of leadership experience managing procurement teams and strategic sourcing initiatives.
• Demonstrated success developing procurement strategies that deliver measurable cost reductions and supply chain improvements.
• Experience managing procurement activities across multiple manufacturing facilities.
• Strong contract negotiation, supplier development, and strategic sourcing expertise.
• Experience working within ERP/MRP systems and procurement analytics tools.
• Strong financial acumen with the ability to analyze cost structures, market trends, and business impacts.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience within the automotive manufacturing industry.
• Knowledge of automotive acoustic and thermal product materials, including:
• Polyester fibers
• Polypropylene (PP) fibers
• Non-woven scrims
• Fiberglass
• Polyurethane (PU) foam
• Familiarity with manufacturing processes including:
• Flat Needle Punch
• Thermobond
• Spunlace
• Experience supporting IATF 16949-certified manufacturing environments.
• APICS, CPSM, CPM, CSCP, or equivalent professional certification preferred.
• International sourcing and supplier management experience.
