Position Summary

The InP Process Engineering Manager is a highly technical semiconductor manufacturing leadership role responsible for leading a team of process engineers and technicians supporting Indium Phosphide (InP) semiconductor laser manufacturing operations. This position will oversee process sustaining, yield improvement, process development, and technical troubleshooting activities within a high-volume semiconductor production environment.

This is a deeply hands-on engineering leadership role requiring a strong technical expert who can actively engage on the manufacturing floor to resolve complex process issues, drive root-cause investigations, and support process optimization initiatives. The ideal candidate will bring extensive InP semiconductor process experience combined with the ability to mentor engineers, prioritize technical activities, and lead fast-paced operational execution.

This role plays a critical part in supporting advanced optoelectronic and photonics technologies tied to AI, telecommunications, and next-generation semiconductor applications.

What You’ll Do

  • Lead and supervise a team of process engineers and technicians supporting InP semiconductor manufacturing operations
  • Drive process sustaining, process development, and yield improvement initiatives across multiple semiconductor process areas
  • Support daily process hold/release activities while minimizing production downtime and hold durations
  • Lead root-cause investigations and corrective action implementation for process excursions and yield issues
  • Provide hands-on technical troubleshooting support directly on the manufacturing floor
  • Support and optimize InP semiconductor laser fabrication processes including regrowth preparation, mesa etching, dielectric etching, facet passivation, and related process areas
  • Utilize statistical analysis and process control methodologies to improve manufacturing yield and process stability
  • Align engineering priorities and technical activities with operational and organizational goals
  • Mentor, coach, and develop engineering team members while assessing technical competency and performance
  • Collaborate closely with Process Integration, Manufacturing, Equipment Engineering, Operations, and Leadership teams
  • Support both production manufacturing and new product introduction (NPI) process development initiatives
  • Establish priorities and allocate engineering resources to support manufacturing execution and long-term process improvement objectives
  • Serve as a technical representative for the engineering organization in both internal and external communications
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on yield enhancement, throughput improvement, and operational efficiency

What You Bring

  • PhD in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Materials Science, or related technical discipline strongly preferred
  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree with strong relevant semiconductor manufacturing experience also considered
  • 5+ years of semiconductor process, fabrication, integration, or manufacturing engineering experience within high-volume semiconductor operations
  • Strong hands-on experience supporting III-V semiconductor manufacturing processes
  • Direct experience with InP semiconductor laser fabrication processes strongly preferred
  • Strong technical troubleshooting and root-cause analysis capabilities within manufacturing environments
  • Experience leading engineers or technical teams within semiconductor manufacturing organizations
  • Strong understanding of semiconductor process control, yield improvement methodologies, and manufacturing problem-solving
  • Ability to work effectively in high-pressure manufacturing environments with urgent operational priorities
  • Strong communication, leadership, and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Ownership mentality with strong urgency and accountability for operational execution

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with semiconductor optoelectronics or photonics manufacturing
  • Process integration engineering experience
  • Experience supporting both high-volume manufacturing and NPI environments
  • Prior engineering management or technical leadership experience
  • Experience working across multiple semiconductor process areas rather than a single specialty
  • Exposure to customer-facing technical interactions
  • Candidates currently based in Canada eligible for TN1 transfer sponsorship encouraged to apply

What You Get

  • Competitive base salary with strong annual bonus and potential equity participation
  • Comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, and 401(k) match
