Position Overview
As a Tools and Outdoor Power Sales Team Member at Hartville Hardware Middlefield, you will assist customers in selecting the right tools for their needs - offering expert product recommendations and hands-on product knowledge to help them make confident, informed decisions. Your enthusiasm for tools, outdoor power equipment, and DIY projects, combined with a commitment to exceptional service, will make you a trusted resource for our customers and a key contributor to the department's success.
What You Will Do
Customer Service & Sales
  • Greet customers and provide friendly, knowledgeable assistance in selecting tools and hardware products
  • Offer expert advice on hand tools, power tools, outdoor power equipment, and accessories based on customer needs
  • Demonstrate the proper use and features of tools to help customers make informed purchasing decisions
  • Drive sales through upselling, cross-selling, and promoting current offers, discounts, and complementary products
  • Address customer inquiries professionally, including returns, exchanges, and warranty-related questions

Product Knowledge & Customer Education
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of products, new arrivals, and industry trends in tools and hardware
  • Stay current on tool specifications, safety features, brands, warranties, and care requirements
  • Educate customers on tool maintenance, safety, and best practices to ensure they get the most from their purchases

Inventory & Merchandising
  • Assist with stocking, organizing, and arranging tool displays to ensure products are accessible and visually appealing
  • Monitor inventory levels and communicate low-stock or out-of-stock items to management
  • Ensure all products are properly labeled, tagged, and priced according to store policies
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe sales floor at all times
  • Report damaged or faulty items and displays to management promptly

Team Collaboration
  • Work closely with team members to meet store objectives and deliver a consistently great customer experience
  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and product knowledge workshops
  • Use point-of-sale systems and store technology accurately to process transactions and retrieve product information

What We Are Looking For
Experience & Skills
  • Previous experience in retail sales, customer service, or hardware preferred
  • Familiarity with tools and hardware products - power tools, hand tools, outdoor power equipment, and accessories - is a strong plus
  • Enthusiastic interest in tools, DIY projects, and home improvement
  • Strong customer service and communication skills - you enjoy helping people find solutions
  • Ability to recommend products confidently based on customer needs
  • Comfortable using point-of-sale systems and store technology to process orders and payments
  • Able to work in a fast-paced retail environment and manage multiple customer interactions simultaneously
  • Basic math skills to assist with pricing and transactions

Availability & Education
  • Minimum availability of one evening per week (until 7:00 PM) and most Saturdays required
  • High school diploma or GED required
