Position Overview
Hartville Hardware's Middlefield location is growing - and we are looking for a knowledgeable, enthusiastic team member to join our Tools & Outdoor Power Department.
As a Tools & Outdoor Power Sales Team Member, you will help customers find the right hand tools, power tools, and outdoor power equipment for their projects. Your passion for tools and DIY, combined with strong communication skills, will allow you to deliver expert recommendations, drive sales, and create a shopping experience customers will want to come back to.
What You Will Do
Customer Assistance
  • Greet customers and provide friendly, knowledgeable assistance in selecting tools and outdoor power equipment
  • Offer expert advice on hand tools, power tools, and accessories based on customer needs and preferences
  • Demonstrate proper use and features of various tools to help customers make confident purchasing decisions

Sales & Upselling
  • Drive sales through upselling, product promotions, and cross-selling of complementary items such as accessories, replacement parts, and maintenance supplies
  • Promote current sales, discounts, and special offers related to tools and outdoor power products

Product Knowledge
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of products, new arrivals, and industry trends in tools and outdoor power equipment
  • Stay informed on tool specifications, safety features, brand differences, warranties, and care instructions to provide accurate, helpful advice

Inventory & Merchandising
  • Assist with stocking, organizing, and arranging tool displays to keep products accessible and visually appealing
  • Ensure all products are properly labeled, tagged, and priced according to store policies
  • Monitor inventory levels and communicate low-stock or out-of-stock items to management

Store Maintenance & Customer Education
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe sales floor where customers can easily find what they need
  • Report any damaged or faulty displays or products to management promptly
  • Educate customers on tool care, maintenance, and safety to ensure they get the most out of their purchases

Team Collaboration
  • Work closely with fellow team members to meet store objectives and deliver outstanding customer service
  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and product knowledge workshops to stay current on new products and sales techniques

What We Are Looking For
  • Previous experience in retail sales, customer service, or hardware preferred - tools or outdoor power background a strong plus
  • Genuine enthusiasm for tools, DIY projects, and home improvement
  • Strong customer service and communication skills with the ability to recommend products based on individual needs
  • Basic math skills to assist with pricing and handling transactions
  • Ability to manage multiple customer interactions in a fast-paced retail environment
  • Comfortable using point-of-sale systems and other technology to process orders and payments
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and assist with stocking shelves or organizing products
  • Ability to stand for long periods, bend, and move around the sales floor
  • Must be available Saturdays and evenings until 7:00 PM
