To thrive as an Internal Tools Engineer, you need strong software development skills, experience with scripting and automation, and a solid understanding of systems architecture, often backed by a degree in computer science or related field. Familiarity with programming languages (like Python or JavaScript), CI/CD pipelines, and internal platforms such as Jira or Confluence is typically required. Excellent problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills help you understand user needs and deliver effective solutions. These abilities ensure that internal teams have reliable, efficient tools, improving productivity and operational effectiveness across the organization.

How does an Internal Tools specialist typically collaborate with other departments to improve workflow efficiency?

Internal Tools specialists regularly work with teams such as engineering, product management, and operations to understand their unique workflow challenges and requirements. By gathering feedback and analyzing pain points, they design, implement, and maintain custom tools that streamline processes and reduce manual tasks. Effective communication and a collaborative approach are essential, as these specialists often need to balance competing priorities and ensure solutions align with broader organizational goals.

What are internal tools?

Internal tools are specialized software applications or platforms developed and used within an organization to support its internal operations, workflows, and teams. These tools can range from dashboards and data management systems to workflow automation and custom utilities built for specific departments like HR, finance, or engineering. Unlike customer-facing products, internal tools are designed to improve efficiency, streamline processes, and enable employees to perform their jobs more effectively. They can be built in-house or adapted from third-party solutions, and are often tailored to the unique needs of a company.

What is the highest paid IT job?

In the field of internal tools and IT, roles such as Chief Information Officer (CIO), Chief Technology Officer (CTO), and IT Director tend to be the highest paid, often earning six-figure salaries or more depending on the organization. Job description

Our Company

Arch is a Series B financial technology company that automates the management of private investments, improving access, understanding, and the human experience of investing across asset classes.ย

Private investments such as venture capital, hedge funds, and private equity, make up roughly 25% of the investment universe. Traditionally, investors, advisors, banks, families, and managers track hundreds of investments in complicated spreadsheets, file folders, and busy inboxes. Not only is this tedious and time-consuming, but it is rife with opportunity for manual data entry errors, inconsistent reporting, and lost information. Enter, Arch.

Arch delivers standardized data, documents, and insights in a single platform, avoiding the need to chase information across dozens or hundreds of โ€˜portalsโ€™. Our purpose is to save investorsโ€™ time while empowering them to make more informed investment decisions, leading to better financial outcomes.ย

We are a fast-growing, dynamic team of 200+, serving over 400 clients, including several of Americaโ€™s largest banks, families, and financial institutions. Weโ€™ve over doubled the size of the company every year since inception and we are looking to hire in all departments as we scale.

The Internal Tools Developer role at Arch is an engineering role whose responsibilities are tightly aligned with the efficiency and overall success of the Operations team. If you love building internal tools to help your colleagues work more efficiently, we want to hear from you.

Your engineering/technical responsibilities will include:ย

  • Development of new features for internal, employee used web platforms

  • Automating the acquisition and extraction of financial data from many sources

  • Reviewing automation outputs ensuring quality and correctness

  • Building and maintaining internal tools for Arch's Operations team

  • Overseeing execution and maintenance of a suite of scripts and other internal tooling used to support core business functions.

  • Assisting with debugging, investigation, and troubleshooting errors.

Reach out to us if you:

  • Love organizing a bit of chaos

  • Are proficient in JavaScript or another mainstream programming languageย

  • Know SQLย

  • Are a quick learner who enjoys partnering with others and solving difficult problems

  • Are interested in alternative investments and/or financial services

  • Communicate well and professionally

Bonus points if you:

  • Have web development experience: HTML/CSS and React

  • Enjoy writing code to process and understand data

  • Are familiar with the terms capital calls, IRRs, recallable distributions, or K-1s

  • Have taken finance or accounting courses

A Note about us:

Most of our full-time roles are based onsite at our New York City office, where our team thrives on in-person collaboration and dynamic teamwork. Being onsite daily enables us to build strong connections, move quickly, and deliver exceptional service to our clients.

For select roles, we are also open to candidates based in Boston. If a role is open to Boston, it will be listed explicitly in the job location.

We encourage applicants who are located in or open to relocating to the listed location to apply and join us in this hands-on, collaborative environment

Some perks of working for Arch include:
  • Strong Team - Youโ€™ll be backed by a strong team that consistently exceeds client expectations and ships new products quickly.

  • Your work is high impact - Being part of a small team means you have real responsibility and impact from day one. You'll be involved in discussions that drive the growth and direction of our platform from the very beginning.

  • Product Market Fit - We have strong product market fit, exceptionally low churn, and have grown mostly organically through word of mouth.ย ย

  • Team community and camaraderie - We have enormous trust in each other and always do what we can do to support one another. We're always ready to step in to help.

  • Great office: Our new home at 199 Water Street gives us a beautiful, energizing space to come together as a team, collaborate more easily, and keep building the next chapter of Arch.

  • Lunch is on Us - Weโ€™ll keep the team fueled with lunch in the office, whether youโ€™re catching up with teammates, talking through an idea, or just taking a well-earned break.

Compensation Range: $70K - $100K
