To thrive as an Internal Tools Engineer, you need strong software development skills, experience with scripting and automation, and a solid understanding of systems architecture, often backed by a degree in computer science or related field. Familiarity with programming languages (like Python or JavaScript), CI/CD pipelines, and internal platforms such as Jira or Confluence is typically required. Excellent problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills help you understand user needs and deliver effective solutions. These abilities ensure that internal teams have reliable, efficient tools, improving productivity and operational effectiveness across the organization.

What are internal tools?

Internal tools are specialized software applications or platforms developed and used within an organization to support its internal operations, workflows, and teams. These tools can range from dashboards and data management systems to workflow automation and custom utilities built for specific departments like HR, finance, or engineering. Unlike customer-facing products, internal tools are designed to improve efficiency, streamline processes, and enable employees to perform their jobs more effectively. They can be built in-house or adapted from third-party solutions, and are often tailored to the unique needs of a company.

Job description

About the Role

As the Head of IT & Internal Tools, you will design and operate the secure, high-integrity infrastructure that will power the Inflection workplace through our next phase of global growth and scale. This is a deeply technical leadership role for a builder who leads through execution-engineering robust systems, automating complex workflows, and serving as "Customer Zero" for our frontier AI technology. Reporting to the COO, you will turn internal infrastructure into a strategic advantage that safeguards our organizational integrity. By creating an intelligent, frictionless employee experience, you will amplify productivity and set the gold standard for operational excellence in an AI-first world.

What You'll Do

  • Own and evolve a secure-by-design, end-to-end IT infrastructure for a dynamic, distributed workforce, spanning zero-trust identity management and high-performance productivity systems.
  • Develop an internal tools platform that leverages Inflection's products and agentic technology to automate workflows and replace third-party SaaS offerings to boost productivity, eliminate manual friction, and minimize external dependencies.
  • Manage the full lifecycle of employee equipment and core IT operations, including laptop provisioning, software updates, and the implementation of an automated helpdesk function.
  • Orchestrate data and workflow integrations across enterprise systems (HRIS, ATS, CRM) to ensure information flows reliably with minimal manual work.
  • Partner closely with Security and Legal to design and enforce identity-centric access controls and data protections, ensuring organizational integrity and compliance with security and regulatory requirements.
  • Recruit and develop a lean, high-leverage team while establishing the technical standards and runbooks necessary for our next phase of global growth.

What We're Looking For

  • Extensive professional experience across IT or Engineering, with a track record of leadership in high-growth environments where technical ownership is the standard.
  • Pragmatic architectural judgment with the ability to balance speed and scalability with the rigorous security needs of a frontier AI company.
  • Demonstrated ability to tackle a broad range of technical challenges, moving seamlessly from high-level strategy to direct system configuration, solution engineering, and workflow automation.
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills, capable of translating complex organizational needs into elegant technical solutions.
  • Experience building and leading inclusive, high-performing technical teams, with a focus on mentoring engineers and setting a high bar for operational quality.
  • High EQ and a service-oriented mindset; a pragmatic approach to risk management that ensures robust security while removing unnecessary friction for a high-velocity team.
  • Have a bachelor's degree or equivalent in a related field to the offered position requirements.

At Inflection, we value diversity of thought and experience. Even if you don't meet every single requirement listed above, we encourage you to apply if you are passionate about AI and building world-class internal systems.

Employee Pay Disclosures

At Inflection AI, we aim to attract and retain the best employees and compensate them in a way that appropriately and fairly values their individual contributions to the company. This role also includes a meaningful equity component, allowing employees to share in the long-term success of the company.

Benefits

  • Diverse medical, dental and vision options
