Position: Grid Integration & Studies Engineer (West Branch, IA or Chicago, IL)

Job Overview:
The Grid Integration & Studies Engineer plays a key role in supporting the company s mission to develop and deliver clean power plants that advance 100% renewable energy worldwide. As part of the company s Global Engineering Grid Integration team, this position supports North American projects through all phases of the interconnection process from application to commissioning. The role includes dynamic model analysis, model tuning, and ensuring compliance with grid reliability standards.
This is a direct-hire position.

Key Responsibilities:
Monitor and stay current on ISO grid codes, requirements, and reliability standards related to project interconnection and dynamic modeling
Evaluate grid code compliance across the existing product portfolio and provide technical guidance to meet interconnection requirements
Lead and manage communication with project stakeholders regarding:
o Application data (technical specifications, forms, dynamic models)
o Interconnection processes (planning and studies)
o Commissioning activities (plant testing and reporting)
Support project owners throughout the interconnection lifecycle by coordinating with internal Global Engineering teams and tracking required documentation
Perform simulations using dynamic modeling tools (e.g., PSS E, TSAT, PSCAD) to represent wind turbine generators, plant controllers, and balance-of-plant systems
Ensure compliance with ISO requirements and reliability standards through simulation validation and model performance
Act as a liaison with the Global Engineering Grid Integration team to develop strategies supporting North American business operations
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor s degree in Electrical Power Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
Minimum of 5 years of experience in renewable energy, traditional energy development, or transmission planning
Experience with high-voltage (HV) systems and transmission planning, including project interconnection processes
Proficiency in dynamic modeling and simulation tools such as PSCAD, PSS E, TSAT, and DIgSILENT PowerFactory
Strong understanding of power systems integration, particularly in onshore wind projects
Knowledge of NERC reliability standards and major North American ISO grid codes (e.g., ERCOT, CAISO, AESO, Hydro Quebec, SaskPower, NSPI)
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and effectively
Strong technical writing and presentation skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite

Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Power Electronics or related field
Experience with multiple programming or scripting languages used in power system modeling and analysis
Multilingual capabilities (German, Spanish, or French preferred)
