Job description

Position Title: Patient Financial Counselor
Location: Upland Hills Health - Dodgeville Hospital Campus
Role amp; Department: Patient Financial Counselor in the Patient Financial Services Department
Hours amp; Shift: Full-time (1.0 FTE) day shift position, Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Role Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for all self-pay account collections
  • Establishing payment plans with patients as necessary in accordance with hospital policies, along with timely monitoring of those accounts
  • Assisting patients with billing issues and questions
  • Assisting patients with complaints regarding their accounts
  • Meeting with patients to determine uncompensated care within the guidelines of the organization’s financial assistance program
  • Monitors and refers accounts to collections in accordance with hospital policies
  • Assists the collection agency with questions and follow-up and approval of accounts for lawsuits
  • Process returned mail and update accounts with correct addresses
  • Respond to all phone calls from patients, insurance companies or other departments in an efficient and courteous manner
Qualifications:
  • Two year or greater education degree preferred with a preference in accounting or related business type of field
  • Minimum of two years healthcare or insurance experience preferred
  • Strong computer skills are required; Microsoft Word and Excel experience are preferred
  • Excellent communication skills required
  • Excellent customer service skills required
  • Prior Epic experience is preferred
  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and prioritize as needed
